Need a wagon. - mileage

Postby solitaire » Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:18 pm

Hey guys, need a wagon for the wife.

Id love a bz-touring but it needs to be an economical car. If i dont drive like an idiot is a 97ish corrola or carib station wagon blacktop going to get worse mileage than a 4afe or 5afe?

Cheers

4afe will win on milage hands down.
signifacnt difference in fuel economy between ae111 auto with 4afe and manual 20v ae111

but yeah provided you drive sensibly both will get decent milage compared to larger engined cars

I just like having power available when i need it... that and ive always wanted a bz touring...

no problem getting a 4afe just wanted to check it was in fact better economy... not much difference between a 5a and 4a in this case?

i have no idea! i'd be getting the blacktop too, for what its worth ;)

that being said though, what does she need a wagon FOR? i havent driven a carib but its hard to imagine the ole blacktop being much good at hauling loads.

20 valvers drink more fuel and oil than the 4afe,4afe are less tiring to drive as well(dont need to to the revs up to have some power),I have a 1600 4afe auto Carib(Z touring) and find it better on fuel compared to my previous Silvertop manual Levin/Trueno plus the bonus of being able to cart almost anything. I cant comment on the larger engined Carib. If you have the money, you should check out the Corolla Fielder Wagons 1.8,so easy on fuel and heaps of power.

I was quite suprised at the power my 96 4afe corolla wagon had... could get up an go when it needed too... an it had over 300,000kms on it!!!

Cheap az chips to run an maintain...

But a 4age option would be a good way to go too.

Compare prices an kms with others, Caribs look allgud, even the newish bugeye corolla wags look half decent with a nice set of rims

you know that 5a's are 1500cc yeah? just checking tis all

i'd got for a 4afe anyway, mrs has a 4afe manual ae111 and i've got blacktop, for 95% of driving, 4afe would be easily suitable imo.

her 4afe drinks as much oil as my 20v tho, so get one with good service history if possible.

I wouldn't touch 5afe tho, just due to less torque than 4afe, especially for a wagon.

Yeah i do know but thanks for checking mate (you never can be sure :D ) would rather have the 4a just wanted to be sure there was a real world difference as the 1500's tend to more common therefore cheaper
