When i had my Corolla, i had it insured for an agreed value of $5,000 , didnt ask me what modifications ive done either, apart from wheels, i just told them 1990 Toyota Corolla, fuel injected. I guess it changes when the car is worth a little bit more though

And if you don't declare your mods your policy is effectively useless. They'll take one look at your car when you go to make a claim and say no. Insurance companies aren't nice, they don't care about you and the only thing they're interested in is profits. They'll do anything they can to get outa paying.

Well said, thats a good reason why insuring a car under your perants fraudulantly when your the primary driver can hurt you when you go to make a claim..

But how will they ever know you were the primary driver?
Im Still trying to get insurance on my 76 corolla with a 4age.
Tried JRI but they could not get me agreed value insurance.
Other policies ive tried have been around the 1400pa mark.. for market value...

I was paying less on my modded evo for full insurance! And market value would have been way more than the corolla.
Im not prepared to pay for full insurance if its at market value, they could say the market value is anything between 2k and 10k...
Im trying to get a agreed value of 10k which isn't unreasonable.

At the moment i don't have insurance so im not really driving the car.
Im thinking of transferring the ownership under my parents name then trying to get insurance again.

i have a friend who works for an insurance company, she said they could probably decline more than half of all claims they receive (not just car insurance) due to all the clauses in the policies, but they pay unless a claim is blatantly BS - because it would be terrible for customer retention if they only paid half of all claims.

the more info you can give them about specifics the better, can also include that its been certed as well

I also included a replacement value on some of the stuff I listed i.e. Mags

everything I listed was then clearly listed on my policy .

and that was through john rae as well

no offense, but if you think you'll get cover with items such as these you might be mistaken

I guess it can't hurt to have more detail, but things such as shocks and spring brands I wouldn't have thought would be necessary to mention, i'd just say lowered. (my 2c) too much info and they might wonder about it

Just wondering, before i go to bed.
If i was to buy a cheap car, say...a 1.3 / 1.6lt Suzuki Swift, Reged and Wof'd for maybe $300, and then insure it under my name, then with the car i could either drive it or just leave it some where in the backyard.
Would that be a good idea to build a history with insurance?

(doesnt have to be a Swift, any cheap insurance type car)

The car, i reckon $500 max, reg: $220, and wof $90 per year.
Would probably work out to be cheaper at the end of it, eg when im 21 or 25 etc..no?

Cheapest option is for you to sell the Levin, buy something of less value as you suggest (doesn't have to be that cheap tho) and drive it for a few years, you'll then have full no claims bonus if you don't write it off and will be set to buy a newer car in a few years time.

Paying for a policy on the Levin with NO no claims bonus is never going to be cheap. With 60% off the policy price tho it soon drops down.

I owned a $2k car for nearly 4 years (got it when I was 17), by the time I went for the Levin I had at least 40% no claims under my belt.
