AE101 oil leak

Postby Luke28 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 6:36 pm

my ae101 has an oil leak.. I had a look to find where it is coming from today and am pretty sure its coming from the sump. (from the gasket.. or goo..) does the north south beam have to be removed to get the sump off? i am getting my clutch changed shortly so would it be wise to let the mechenic fix the leak while he is doing the clutch?

Yeah, you will have to remove crossmember along with exhaust 2 in 1 piece.
It will be easier if you do it while the gearbox is out.
just make sure it is sump leaking (they rarely do) not crank/cam shaft seals.

ok well i pulled off the cam belt cover and no oil was leaking from the top.. had a tourch under the car and didnt look to me that there was oil coming from the crank.. plus at the start of the year i had all the cam and crank seals replaced while changing the belts. the belts had no sign of oil on them. not sure what to do.. might have someone have a better look.

try going around the sump bolts and lightly tighten them might make a better seal, but idealy remove subframe and exhuast to seal it up again

you can only get some of the bolts.. then they disapear under the cross member. ill degrese all the oil off and wait and see exactly where its coming from. if it is the sump gasket ill get the clutch guy to fix it up while doing the clutch. cheeers guys!

My 20v is leaking a bit of oil from the oil filter fitting where it bolts to the block... look there.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

lol yer.. they say the front seals had to be replaced and while we were doing that we had to do all this other crap which is going to cost you heaps. id prefere to find where its coming from before i take it to get fixed.

doesnt seen to be any oil above where the sump bolts up.. will attack it with some degreser tomorrow.. give it a good clean and go from there.

bugger indeed. guess its a bit late now but sump bolts just need to be nipped up, its the sealant or gasket which keeps the oil in.

if you think your mechanic is ripping you off, or you dont agree with him on where its leaking, why dont you go somewhere else?

depends how tight it is really, might end up drilling it out and heli-coiling. if the broken off bolts are on a straight section, you might get away with not replacing them unless they are side by side or something.

ok so i had a look tonight after work and almost certain its the crank seal leaking.. why would this be leaking because i had it replaced in feb this year!!! along with the crank pulley and key. Anyway whats a rough price for getting the seal replaced?? is it a hard job for someone that hasnt takin belts off before?

Cheers

so its the oil pump seal??? there like $7
If it was replaced it might not have been put in right, or the crank has alot of wear in that area?
