Does anyone know the highest diff ratio you can get factory in either a Hilux or Hiace diff head? anything higher than 4.3 to 1??

I assume thats in your JZ powered Hiace?

is it auto or manual?

My LN130 surf was originally a 4.55:1. I put the 2JZGE in it and then dropped down to a 4.1, but had been looking for a 3.9.
i'd be looking at a 3.7 as an option for a van

Yes thats the one mate. Its auto and with the 4.3 its got good pick up and ideal for the towing its going to do, but its revving a tad high at 100k. Either a 3.9 or 3.7 would be ideal prob the 3.9 as its still going to be doing heavy towing as opposed to high speed cruising.

Around 2900 - 3000. bit high for a six. 2300-2400 would be good.

if you're currently pulling 2900 rpm at 100kph, the overdrive 'gear ratio' would be 0.85:1
which means a 3.7:1 diff would see you at 2500rpm
3.5:1 would see you at a shave under 2400rpm.

for towing all the time 3.7:1 would be a MINT ratio.
a 3.9:1 would see you a shave under 2600rpm
