Painting rocker covers

hi there, lookin at painting my rocker cover on my 20v silvertop. anyone got any tips for me??? at this stage im thinkin about getting sum custom paint put into a can for me. does it have to be powder coated stuff or just heat treated paints??? any help much appreciated

You can't buy powder coat in a can

Get some good quality paint that will handle a bit of heat.
Go somewhere with a bit of specialist knowledge in paints and ask them what they'd reccommend.

Powdercoat would be idea, but enginebay paint does the job

i got a smallport 16v 4age, i got my cam covers powder coated white and then did my own special touch on them and they dont look too bad i reckon

i got them metal dipped then powder coated

There are some cool paints at repco for doing this at the moment, not many colors to choose from though. needs an undercoat of sparkly silvery stuff then overcoat of translucent color.

Chips easy though Meh looks good for a while

if you want to do it properly then sand blast them clean, use a metal etch primer, then a 2 pack primer, sand back and clean then use 2pak colour or base and 2pak clear, you will need a compressor, here is a pic of mine.

heres mine, as i said i got them metal stripped then powder coated, my mate did it with his aswell and his has been on his car for a little while and they all good

VHT brake caliper paint works well, but can chip quite easily if you're not careful.

Dip them and powder coat them. Think my 4AGZE ones done in gloss black were only $20 to get the pair done.

$20? thats damn cheap, I was thinking it would be around $100. Where'd you get it done?

Place down here in Dunedin. Stripped at engine reconditioners for nothing and powder coating was $20.

i got a mate that owns a sign writing co. and he made removable stickers that i used as stencils and i used heat proof engine enamel/paint

i just paid for the paint $40, inc can of etch and the rest but my labour...

I had mine HPC coated along with the heat shield on the exhaust manifold and they look great! $90 all up and it will never come off!
