I was thinking the same too. What message are they trying to get across? We should all go so slowly around corners that we can take evasive action when a landmine grows out of the tarseal and blows a tyre up?

Heck, I didn't even know they were landmines to start with.. I had to ask someone :oops:

Maybe the LTSA would have spent the $$ better on getting rid of the landmines on the road to start with.

they could have just shown the car sliding off the road, skipped the landmines and saved 1.5 million. never made sense to me either

You reckon they'd just go Ford and say "Look we wanna use your falcon for an add campaign"..etc etc, and then add a message at the end saying "This safety message was brought to you by Land transport & Ford NZ"...

That way people associate Ford with road safety etc, rather than midlife crisis & cars sliding off roads after running over landmines...

What the hell is the point of the landmines anyway?! So you're fine speeding as long as you can avoid random landmines? :lol:

Somehow I dont think we have much of a problem with that in this country

I dont see what all the bullshit is about i mean who would honestly get put of from buying a Ford because of some ad with mines on the road? Big fuss over nothing and harden the $&#$% up Ford i say :lol:

I was listening to the radio news this morning and some spokeswoman for Ford said that it wouldn't lose control like that anyway because of all it's traction control and driver aids :lol:

Somehow those falcons defy the laws of physics :lol:

Maybe you would feel differently if it was your millions of dollars which had been invested in Ford R+D road handling and traction control systems etc.

I can see exactly what the fuss is about, and I would be pissed twofold - first the roadholding of my car has been severely questioned, and secondly it's a crap ad (hey as a taxpayer you paid for that too).

Well it does rather look like the car hooked the handbrake on half way around a corner. The cool bit, is that was a real car, turned into a radio control real car.

How much fun would that have been?

Remember the 'All new Falcon 6' adverts? The opening of that is almost a shot for shot remake. I thought it was a Ford ad to start with. No surprise that they are pissed off, and rightfully so in this case.

Most other road safety ads - the car is just a car that the poor bastard happened to be driving. In this ad they really show the car off.

As much as I hate tossers who drive fast in Aussie junk I think it's a pretty unfair ad. Firstly, there's no way that would happen like that, he wasn't going that fast. Secondly, it's blatantly showing the make and model of the car and focusing on it, something that is against their regulations and ripping off the style of car/Ford advertising. Thirdly, the land mines are stupid, why not ice or water? or a sheep? That'd be more realistic for country roads. I'd rather actually see the cops out the cracking down on middle-aged tossers who think they're V8 supercar racers than have my tax money wasted on a crap ad.

Because the ad isnt about recognizing "hidden" dangers, but the fact that the faster you corner the more danger (eg landmines) you could be in...

Notice how when he slows down the landmines sink back down? :wink:

I think it's a great add. It says no matter what car you are in, there is a point where if you corner too quickly you will loose control and fly off the road... who can argue with that?
Ford need to suck it up, we have all the road safety people on one side of the fence saying don't speed, drive slower, think of other people on the roads etc... then you have Ford adds that say you're driving the ultimate machine that can't fall off the road and you can drive as fast as you like with no danger etc.

Along with holden, mitsubishi, subaru, suzuki, toyota... all car manufacturers have ads like that. When people see your car on TV going fast, they want to buy one. When they see it rolling down a bank... they might start having second thoughts.

If it is such a big deal to Ford then i say Chevy should take Ford to court because of the other ad with the slot cars. I doubt a Falcon would hold the road better than the full race spec Corvette :roll:

I reckon the main trouble is that the Ford is a current model, so the ad could (will?) effect new car sales. All the other ads I have seen have used older models from the mid '90s, which is not so much of a problem. Ford are definitely doing the right thing IMO. It is a stupid ad to, I don't really see the point in the landmines and they spent to much. Surely there are enough pictures of real accidents around to make it unneccesary to make more up......especially using my (and yours I hope!) tax dollar.
