Catalytic Converter Rattle

Hey all.

Ever since I got it, my cars had a damned loud rattle at 3500 rpm (comes then goes at that rpm), but today I had my extractors put on now it rattles prettymuch constantly... which obviously is a real pain in the ass.

I haven't got anything to get the car up to a point where I really wanna get under it, so does anyone know where might be able to help out? I'd be quite happy to get it gutted or a pipe put through it - would gut it myself if I could get it off.

I'm guessing if I went somewhere like pitstop they'd only replace it with a new converter which I don't want at the moment..

Its probly just the heat sheild

could also be the core of the convertor breaking down and crumbling.

unless things have changed, a place like pitstop will happily replace the converter with a bit of straight pipe or a resonator etc for a reasonable price. They make money off your converter. Gutting it yourself can be rather hazardous so yeah..

I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a quote off them, but still open to other places

when i said "a place like pitstop" I meant any exhaust shop, they should all do it for ya

i had a similar issue, i removed the cat, found the biggest hammer and screwdriver i could and 'hollowed" out the guts of the cat and refitted it. sure it won't pass an emissions test but it costs nothing to do. i reccomend using goggles and a GOOD dust mask during the hollowing out process. hey presto no more rattles.

Do you notice any power or noise increase from removing the cat?
