Honda Vs Supra

Postby suprakid » Sat Sep 29, 2007 11:33 am

This is my story:

Three weeks ago I bought a 1986 Toyota Supra GT GA70, 4 days later it got crashed into by a dickhead who didn't give way at the lights, so now my beautiful Supra is just sitting at 'Mills' collision repair NOT BEING FIXED because the other drivers insurance company doesn't want to pay out! (MAN IT PISSES YOU OFF).

I need your help finding parts, I bought the car for $3200, and so far the repair cost has incurred a price of $3000. So I figure if I can find parts and I just get 'Mills' to fix the chassy, I can do the rest to keep the price down so the Supra doesn't get written off.
There's no motor damage it's purely cosmetic, the price is so high because of the rarity.
But it needs a front right panel and basically a whole new front end...(He hit it from the side so it pushed the whole front sideways).

HELP!!!

Do you have insurance? If you do you can just claim on yours and make the insurance company do the hardwork of getting the money out of the guy's insurance.

Why do they not want to pay out?

Can't help with the panels though, sorry. :?

I only had 3rd party fire and theft, i'm only 17 and thts all i could afford.

They don't want to pay out because, the other guy (who was driving a honda i might add), isn't being very truthful to his insurance...he's managed to make out that it was 50% my fault, by telling his insurance that the cops said that. "what a dick".

This is what happened in the accident.
I was approaching an intersection in Hamilton and the light was green (no green arrow) so i just drove straight through, the 'Hona' was in the opposite turning bay turning right and just pulled out straight into me, he was supposed to give way to any traffic going straight...I cannot see how that 50% my fault?

They're just dragging it out, the hondas insurance is basing the payout on the fact that that Hona said "I thought he was turning left".

If you're in the right, take them to small claims. For the paltry sum of $50 you should be able to get the insurance co to pay out.

Fair call man, we're in the same boat. I'm 17 and couldn't afford full insurance, I only had 3rd party F&T when i crashed my aw.

Unless you were actually indicating left the guy has absolutely no leg to stand on.

Ask for the police report and take that to the insurance company.

I agree, take him to small claims, if he was in the wrong (like you say) he'll be $&#$%!

It brings a little joy seeing the damage to the honda compared to your supra tho >_<

If you're in the right, stick to your guns and be patient. Since you obviously did nothing wrong you'll get paid out... eventually. it's probably just some git thinking he'll win because he's older.

It was an awesome car!

When i bought it i got the guy to get me a warrent ( becasue it was supposed to run out in october) so he did that.

I had a look at the warrent slip and it was all ticks, absolutely no crosses on anything...

I loved it, it just sucks that I only had it for 4 days.

Did the police attend and issue any tickets or warnings at all? Did they give/offer you their findings etc? If no, get in touch with them and explain the situation. I take it you have no witnesses (even someone in your car counts).

If you start admitting to the insurance company or even hint that you may have had a hand in it, they will chase you for repairs on the Honda.

Even though he "thought you were turning left" does not give him any excuse. Draw a sketch of it all and go and see someone if you can.

I have 2 witnesses that were in the car, and the other thing is that the Honda said as soon as he got out of the car "Sorry man, I thought you were going left", he ended up apologising like 5 times...so it's stupid that he admitted liability at the scene but not now.

Thanks for the police info, i'll go and get the crash findings and see if he charged the other guy, because if he told his insurance that it was 50% my fault, then he probably didn't tell them if he got charged with 'failing to give way'.

$&#$% sucks man.
I think the guy who i presume is older thinks he can use his age to justify what he did.

i can under stand the 3k$ figure to fix yours, the pic above was about 1900$ worth of damage, although the chassis was fine.

Needed a new bumper, grills, indicator, foglight. I think they repaired the guard however.

im so glad i was rocking the sleepy eyes or else it would have needed a new light assembly/battey/fuse box

Find your insurance policy and have a read of it, You may find it may be good for you, As most insurance co's will pay out for your car(or pay for repairs) and get the money from the other party, although I think the other party may have to admit liability first!

If you go through small claims court you may get all your money back, but there is a chance the judicator will have no idea about motor vehicles and will find you liable in some sort of way(happened to me) If all goes well you may get paid your money back at $10 a week if your lucky.

My suggestion would be to talk to the officer at the scene and see if you can get a copy of the accident report or get your insurance co to chase it up as that's their job and is what you pay them for(also it costs money for memory). If the police report rules in your favour your insurance company should sort your side out for you.

Good luck, oh and what insurance company are you with?

that sucks man i hate people who won't take responsibilty for their sh!t driving
similar thing happened to my gf's 300ZX, 5 days after she bought it we get rear ended at red lights, we pull over the other car goes past yells at us that it is our fault and drives off. too bad for him i got in the car and chased him down and took his number plate, when we went to the police they discovered he was disqualified from driving, oh dear! suck thing is she hadn't got insurance yet (was still in the process of getting it) and he won't if he is disqualified so we're going to have to take him to court what a #%@$ing hassle
