Engine Check Light Circuit Question

Postby thegreatestben » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:55 pm

Hey guys this ones been pestering me for a while now.
I'm trying to get my engine check light to work, but it doesn't want to work.
After alot of $&#$% about i've narrowed the problem down to the ECU not triggering the W pin. The ECL circuit is fine; ie. connecting the wire to ground causes the light to come on.

So does anyone know why the W wouldn't be responding at all?
I didn't do any of the wiring myself so perhaps there is something that needs to be connected that hasn't?

Details are:

1g-gte Gen 3
Factory Manual ECU
Basically stock
In a GX81 chaser

Cheers

Pull you ecu out and check the capacitors. (search for how to fix this)
I have had a AE101 GTZ (4agze) ecu dies slowly on me in the past.
I wouldnt illuminate the check engine light but the light bulb worked.
The a couple of months later the ecu wouldn't run the engine properly...
It would only drive ok with full throttle (which gave full power!) part throttle and it was undrivable - capacitors died in it.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Kinloud - Have read that this can be a problem, I'll investigate further.

Soarer T - Any chance you could let loose the details on what it took to fix it?
Dead capacitors?

my ECU was fine, i had borrowed my m8s ECU when i did my wiring(just in case mine was broken, when finished, realised mine was fine). i had wrong connection from "check connector" to the dash gauges , and blown fuse. you can check at the " check connector" and the fuse box beside the chick panel. by looking throughtthe wiring diagram, the wire of "W" is (Yellow/red strip). i think they do not go to ground straight, one side is go to the check connector, and the other side is go to the fuse box beside the chick panel through the J/B.

while i was doing my wiring, i had talk to some of my frineds who are auto electricians, they told me that toyota ECUs normally are pretty good. well, still can not avoid the blown capacitors if the real problem is that.

try to check all the connections and fuses and talk to some of auto electricians, they might give some advise.either than that. i can not help much. i do not much about the wiring neither.
here is the wiring diagram for Gen3 1GGTE.

good luck.

That diagrams wire colours do not match mine, as I've said, I have the circuit hooked up all good, if I ground the wire that connects to the ECU via W pin it the light comes up.

I've got the ecu here, I'm taking pin outs directly off've the pcb.
So what ever the problem is must be something to do with the ECU or something.

On the ECU there are Three Earths. Are they common earths I.e. if one is hooked up the others are there just to be sure?
