tacho wires in dash plugs

Postby bluemaumau » Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:16 pm

hmm decided to get my standard tacho working today,

situation

4agze engine
4afe dash

=

4afe dash cannot read signal as its a coil pack engine,

fine i have a vr4 interface

i know the wire runs direct to the dash (i.e not thru the ecu)

does anyone know which pin on which plug even the exact colour trace that the wire should go to.

i think its black with two white/silver dots but would like to be sure,

is it as easy as turning the dash around and following the circuits up to the pins?

/end essay

cheers

even if someone has the pinouts for the male / female plugs on a 4agze (by ecu) that would help

when my dash loom was made pins that were not used were removed/cut, all i need to do is find out which pin on which plug on a ae101 4afe is the tacho rpm signal and i caan plug my wire from my tacho interface in, and should be fine.

cheers for the help frost but i know how to get the signal, i just want to know where at the other end it goes!

yup i just found that out, problem is that the solder were the needle sits the trace splits into 3 and goes to 3 different pins, how do i know which one?

this is only right if the solder is infact the tahco needle.

3 pins

1 goes directly to high beam light then to solder
1 goes directly to solder
1 goes directly to left indicator then to solder.

so im guessing the second one is my correct pin?

this pin has a wire which is white with a black trace with a silver dot.

i had a look around the ecu area, which also has the dash male/female plugs. and found 3 wires not connected to anything but connected to the dash display.

one was black, one was yellow, and one was white with a black trace with a silver dot.

because its a conversion i know there were a few wires left over like the s/c light wire (as the 4afe doesnt have this in the dash.)

hopefully this is it then, ill hook it up and see

if you want to goto the hassle, the board inside the dash cluster will have "tach" and a screw runing through it... thats were it gets the input (on a ae101 anyway)

yup i do want to, cheers ace

ive got the cluster out, do i take the actual cluster apart?

because it doesnt say tach anywhere on the back.

theres (in the vicinity of the tach needle)

1 large solder patch
3 screws with the respective letters: E, IG+, IG-

IG- is the tacho feed.

use a multi meter and see what pin it goes too.

i think this is my wire, i found it cut at the engine end of the dash loom, and its IG- on the cluster

but when i check the resistance it gives me 2.32 or something weird.
