Small sealed battery for a race car...

I am in need of a battery for my race car. It is going to be mounted in the cabin, I dont like the idea of a lead acid battery/battery box/vented to outside etc... so Iam going for a sealed type battery.

I was flicking through he pages of a performace car mag and came across a drift spec A31 Cefiro (RB30DET) that is using a 12v 17ah sealed battery (small battery). My question is, if a small battery can start that 6 cylinder beast then it would have no problem starting/running my 4AGZE.

Is or has anyone used these small sealed type batteries in there race cars and had any problems with them?

had them in the WRX rally cars.
no issues.

dont remember what brand they were though.

I have been using one in my race car for around a year .
The only problem I have is that the Link ECU will not start if the volts go below 8 volts , this happens within 30 secs cranking on a coldish morning so I need to use a jump starter pack . After the 1st start with the jump pack , the car will start no probs all day just on it's own . I think the price was around $70 but I'm not sure

I have tried these small cheaper batteries and spent more time jump starting my car than not , and always when you needed the thing to fire into life it wouldn't.
I paid the money($580) and bought a proper one from Black rallysport it is 9kgs, and I reckon that I would get about 2kms on the starter. Dont piss around spend the money and do it properly the first time, as I spent about the same amount as a new battery replacing wiring,relays,main switches, and even had a new reduction starter trying to solve my starting problems.

I know Kinloud savaged one of those jumpstart packs for a battery.

Personally I think with such a small battery you'd need to be pretty careful, it would go flat pretty easy since it'll have quick a low (comparatively) capacity.
If you're gonna do those, I think the key will be to remember to isolate the battery when you shut off the car.

Yeh its prettty small, Length: 180mm, Width: 85mm, Height: 130mm too big for a motor bike I would say.

I run one in my car. Works fine, baring in mind that I don't have a stereo or any other jazz. But it's daily driven, and hasn't missed a beat for 6 months now.

Was only $60inc GST too, so no biggie if it craps out.

Sits under my passanger seat, so very close to the cut of switch which I like.

those are back up batteries, for alarm panels and the likes. no good for cars really, only supply low current.

i use an exide orbital, same thing as those odessy ones. average parts place wanted near 600 for one. down the road at the exide shop, i got one for 270 with trade discount. mean battery.

I use a battery out of a jumper pack - the battery looks just like the pic Rick posted at the start of the thread. It's done 2 seasons in my racecar (gen3 3sge) seems to be happy as larry.
I hope it lasts as long as the jumper pack I use all the time on all my cars (!) it takes all I can throw at it and keeps pumping out the amps. Drove my mark II I sold (1GEU, broken cambelt so doesn't run) using the starter onto the trailer, off the trailer, backed it up my drive, did a 3 point turn and then back on my trailer and it is still able to turn the motor over!
