I thought id post up some pics of my dad doing up his S15 for you guys to have a look at, so far hes put a new end muffler on, taken out the cat and replaced it with 3" stainless, Then he built up a twin dump pipe (exhaust and wastegate split) he got a second hand s14 turbo to help him and he made up a custom jig, after a few trips home from work and some long nights he got it all tacked up


The car hasn't been dyno'd yet as hes going to do a front mount, new pipe work, pod filter/cold air box and finish off the rest of the exhaust in 3inch.

After welding up the dump pipe he sent it up to procoat in auckland and they heat ceramic coated it, heres the finished pictures



He bolted it back on last weekend and it made quiet a difference in the feel of the car, it feels more aggressive on boost and also comes onto boost alot faster and stronger then before, the boost level didn't increase and doesn't spike ether so hes very happy with the result. It also makes quiet a wicked exhaust note now, sorta like a external wastegate thats plumed back in but not as noisey. Tell me what you guys think as i think he done a pretty nice job

I personally would have smoothed the welds off as much as possible, but it still looks nice

The welds are purged the welds aren't smoothed off because stainless has a habit of work hardening and cracking so they are left for extra strength

Come on Cole... Brad knows that, he's a technical expert.

Reminds me of people who smooth out Ali welds because they will look "nicer". No thought given to the welds strength. Had an idiot weld a swingarm for me that I had nearly sheared off freestyling and he ground the weld bead back! Took all the strenght away and it cracked within two weeks.

As always your dad's workmanship appears flawless.

no flexi? i personally would have put a small flexi on the wastegate pipe EVEN THOUGH it's on the same flange as the dumppipe and a big flexi on the exhaust,. just seems to have a high potential to crack

otherwise i think it looks pretty good,

yeah thats true but it didn't have one from factory so saw no reason to put one in, id be very surprised if it cracked. but we will see how it goes, all good so far.

yeah he should bring it out but he said he doesnt want to make us look bad. LOL he rung a few muffler centers etc bout the flexy idea and they said due to the motor being a "north south" engine it doesnt need one.

The flexi on the wastegate pipe is a good idea though, as the sudden blasts of heat then cooling down make it expand and contract.

but its a solid item, its not like a external wastegate thats plumbed back in, plus with that procoat after going to quiet a hard drive you can hang onto the wastegate and dumppipe side without melting you're hands lol

that makes some sense to me. a north south engine moving would simply move the exhaust side to side. a east/west type upon moving would push/pull on the exhaust which would think is a worser thing than side to side movement.

Flexis aren't just for movement of the whole muffler, can also be used for expanding and contracting with heat.

Or making an exhaust fit easier when measurements are slightly wrong!

I dont see a flexi as a requirement on a north south engine'd car normally.
Cant recall any from memory that had them from fatory.

hey guys, my dad finished the rest of his exhaust system on his S15 last weekend and sent it away, the hole lot now has been Heat Ceramic Coated from procoat in auckland. the pic shows the cat replacement and then the muffler from the cat back to the end muffler (not shown in pic) he also made a silencer in the middle to quieten it down abit the boost level with the complete system has gone from just under 10psi to 11psi, doesn't creep any higher and no other issues, goes alot better and has quiet a cool exhaust note.
