Marshall Transmissions!

Postby sleeektoy » Sat Oct 13, 2007 3:06 pm

I dont usually get pissed off enough to post something on the forums like this, but this morning really annoyed me.

I was trying to get my gearbox for my TA27 celica rebuilt by marshall transmissions in hamilton last week, drove from Auckland to Hamilton and dropped it off last saturday and requested it be ready by today(1 week).
I called wednesday and they called me back thursday with the estimate, and confirmed it would be ready saturday.
This morning i got up early and drove to hamilton to pick it up, only to find its still in pieces in the workshop :(
Apparantly they were supposed to call me yesterday and let me know it wasnt going to be ready. They offered to courier it up to me on monday or tuesday for free,
but i'm really peeved that i wasted 3.5 hrs driving down/back and the fact it wasnt ready when i requested it to be!!

And i had the intention of getting the box back in the car this weekend to bring the it down for the megameet next weekend - not goin to happen now

I took the gearbox there because i have had friends recommend the place they didnt seem to have any issues with them.

Anyone else had problems with them ??

I have met the owner and seems to be a good guy (he is actually my bosses mate). Our company has done an Audi CVT trough them, that no one wanted to do, no complaints from there.

Why would you drive 3.5hrs to get your box rebuilt anyway? I'm sure your gearbox could have been rebuilt by at least 10 shops within a half hour drive of you.. are you more annoyed at the gearbox taking too long, or that you were that picky that you had to drive for hours to get it done?

Not only that, but even I would call before making a several-hour journey to pick something up, to make sure that things were ready. Instead of bagging what is probably an excellent gearbox shop (evidence of which is in sergei's post above), take the blame for your lack of foresight and fastidiousness instead of venting pointlessly.

Good day. :)

Give him a break, surely when someone is paying them money to do a job, they should have the courtesy to call if there are delays shouldn't they?

I'd tend to file this in the "Shit happens" bin, no point getting too wound up about something that can't be changed...And at least they're doing the best they can to make up for it.

It's fun being friends with Murphy

It's not just the fact the box isnt in the car, i can have that back in and going in about an 2-3 hours. I intended to get some km's on the car before taking it on any long trips (the engine has done less than 500km, not even run in yet)

Sunday would have provided me the time to do that around Auckland and i'd be a lot happier about bringing it down but, as they say - sh1t happens.

Maybe next year :D

At 500km an engine is as run in as it ever will be.

Like that time with my gen 3 tailights?

I understand how the OP feels, he just wants it done, if you say you can get it done on time, then goddamn do so, I'm suprised the motor trade is still so crap although there's so much competition in NZ.

But then, a phone call is worth 3.5hrs (and plus petrol)

ur not wrong there. man i get sick of people and their whole "iv gotta do 10,000ks first varying the rev range only from 0 - 1500 rpm for it to be run in properly"

dude just put the gearbox in and drive it.

iv heard nothing but good things about marshals in hamilton.

i would have rung before i left?

damn straight, it was run in after 50kms, drop that oil out and thrash it... with good oil in ofcourse :D

I've heard good stories about marshalls too, they should've called you to say it wasn't ready (they knew you were from akl right?)... but you also should've called before you jumped in the car.

Yes they knew i was from Auckland, and yes i should have (in hindsight) called on friday to make sure - i left akl at 6:30am on sat to get there early and enjoy the drive down without too much traffic.

I have also had word that they busted/broke/wrecked a bearing on friday when reassembling it which explains things a lot (wasn't told this on sat), they are still awaiting a replacement one to arrive - hence the delay.
