Removing Cat or not?

Postby ShiXtr » Thu Oct 18, 2007 3:30 pm

Hi guys,

Would removing the cat on a 2000 Toyota Corolla with the 2zz-ge motor which has done 150,000km have any significant effect at all?

Have had some people say that there is no effect as these late model cars do not have a clogged up cat.

Really would like to hear from people who has tried it on a late model Corolla or similiar or have heard about the results from doing it.

Would there be an increase in exhaust noise or droning if it is removed?

Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and advice!!

leave it in for 2008 WOF ;). They will be checking for it being there where it supposed to be (not in the bin).

Having the same car, and having done it myself, I then spent a further 3-400 on the exhaust to remove the nasty buzzing noise that it gave under vacuum conditions.

I wouldn't bother doing it if I was in the same situation.

There are very few cheap things you can do to these cars as they are pretty well setup from the factory.

Intake - is pretty well sorted, most changes will take torque away from the lower end, and not make a hell of a lot up the top, TRD filter could help though.

Exhaust - the factory 2 inch is not overly restrictive, and moving to anything above 2.5 is stupid on it unless it is making enough HP to need it.. which is unlikely for the next few years until they come down a bit in price, and parts become a bit easier to get hold of.

Only thing I want to add that TRD filter is not washable and is similar priced to K&N panel replacement (which is washable).
