dead right once your used of euro/nz coupes as we call them the japs arent the same at all,

cant beat a euro/nz spec lowered on superlights and a janspeed exhaust and 100% cosmetically standard other than that

say you find a stock NZ new 86, you would still put the wheels, exhaust and lower it right? if yes whats the difference between that and a reasonably modified one? both are modified nether are stock....

I don't know much about cars, but I know what I like :-P

Postby jondee86 » Fri Oct 05, 2007 11:41 pm

People like what they like. Some like riced out... some like stock.
Some like rock hard suspension... cuz it duz skidz boi !!! Others like
a fast road car that can do a three hour drive without making you deaf
or in need of a back brace. Dang... some even like Hondas or Fords 8O

So I say go with whatever makes you happy. Stock, modified, race or
cruiser, if you get out of it with a grin on your face, then you KNOW what
you like :) And that is really all that matters.... is it not ?

Cheers... jondee86

irish ae86 wrote:to be honest its a combination of things really,

1) the nz new spec is the same as our spec with the following exceptions aerial in drivers wing its passenger in uk spec, electric sunroof was only availabe from 86 on in irish/uk spec, no side indictors in the wings, lock in the petrol cap and clock in kmh

all the main things are the same back lights boot spoiler stickers lights in bumpers and there irish/uk new colours,

2) the japs may have drift stuff performance parts etc etc but they come in colours that werent availabe in ireland and are not the same spec,

what i want is a nz new or original irish/uk car to keep for good and keep original, i can always buy a jap for diffing and wrecking in anytime.

as far as we are concerened there for keeping japs are for hooping and wrecking

While I still apperciate that a NZ New is worth more and would kill to own one myself your facts are not really correct. If that is what you want then that is what you want which is cool but you may not have seen as many jap spec AE86's as you think. 90% of AE86's in NZ are Jap as there were only very few brought in NZ New and over 50% of those cars were turned in to Group A rally cars.

Jap cars were available with the same spec as NZ just different colours.(no oxy sensor/different badging too)

Not all NZ New cars have sunroofs, plenty of Japs do.

Japs have the same lights spec. available front and rear as NZ new except the No. plate lights.

All jap cars are in Kph - NZ New have a 240kph speedo instead of 180kph

What do you mean a lock in the petrol cap? NZ new cars do not have this either.

How much are you prepared to pay? I know of an old couple that has owned a white corolla/levin gtv since it was brand new - its immaculate.

the japs that were imported into ireland had the sqaure back lights, this is an easy conversion the main thing is the paint codes wont match irish/uk new so not matter wat you do with it it still wont be the same well the fussy people like me anyway. i've had loads of ae86 the reason being so fussy now is this is the last one i want to buy.

that one on trademe has had too many mods,

gmacrae be very interested in that car if you want to pm me details and the the kind of $$$ that would buy the car i'll get straight back to you

The elusive dream....

Postby jondee86 » Sun Oct 21, 2007 2:19 am

The NZ new AE86 Corollas tend to be pretty tightly held. There was a
blue one on trademe a year or so back... totally original and in near
perfect condition. It was quickly bid up to over $13K and then pulled
before the auction closing date. So I,d guess it sold for $15K plus.
Maybe someone who knows could post the actual figure ?

There is a one owner 1985 NZ new GT coupe in Wellington, with around
85,000 on the clock. It has been parked up for about 5 years, but was a
daily driver before that. Only mods are Koni shocks and springs, and a
Momo wheel. Colour is Rose-Grey according to the codes. The guy who
owns it was offered $15K for it years back, and turned it down !!!

So you see, they are out there, but prising them free from their owners
is no easy task :)

my gearbox rebuilder uses an ae86 for his targa and racing. I looked at the engine and they have gone to the "4A-GTE" lol

as for finding one... best of luck :)
