Rev-Meter/Tacho

Postby xsspeed » Tue Oct 30, 2007 4:36 pm

Hey there,
I have an ee80 liftback that I am fixing up, eventually to do a 4age or other conversion of some sort.

It came with the 2e engine (carbd).
I have bought a donor car, same model, 4a engine, auto

What I want to do for cosmetic reasons is replace my dash cluster with the one from the donor car as mine currently doesnt display the revs, while the one from the donor does.

So I am wondering has anyone done something similar, or if they used an aftermarket tacho, where did this wire to, if there is no rev-meter in the first place.

Both cars are complete so can swap dash looms if thats whats needed.

Any help appreciated or point me in the right direction.

Where does the rev meter get its reading from anyway?

Thanks

If you use an aftermarket tacho, take a rev signal off the -ve of the coil.

For the transplant it may be easier to stick with the 'E' series of engines or you will have to change the mounts. Possibly a 4efte 1300 turbo from a gt starlet.

The *E80 series are all good for conversions, the mounts will bolt straight up to either the ae82, or ee80. If the dash's are any thing like the mazda ones, it might work just by swaping the cluster over and plugging it in.

re conversion it'll just be a matter of getting 4a mounts, they bolt to the same place.

I'm hoping for some kind of plug and play action, ie plug in the new loom, and hope the tacho works as well, and hope there is a rev signal that just wasnt being used before. Might have a play around over the weekend. Cheers guys
