The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret

Don't know if this has been posted before, but here it goes.

The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret

I have been driving (legally) for over a decade. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either.

Quick question, what side of your car is your gas tank? If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncofortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definetly have done it in a borrowed or rental car.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or put your neck at risk of uncomfort or injury.

If you look at your gas guage, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo above). It is that simple!

I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated!

Why don't the dealers share such importnant information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the drivers ed manual? I don't get why any mechanic I have ever been too or know has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explantion can be that all these people probably don't even know!

Go out and share the worlds best kept auto secret with your friends as this is information is way too important to be kept secret.

I don't know, I'm yet to look on my own car or others to see if it's true. I just got it via email now haha

i pop the cap as i'm driving into the servo and look at the side view mirrors.. works a treat and i don't have to squint at the icon to see the handle side and i dont'' have to strain my neck much. :)

Some one has been listening to 91zm I think (it was broad casted over the air from them)

As for the reason why it isn't shared...possibly because it doesn't hold true for ALL cars, some yes, some no.

but for those that do, yes very handy indeed

if you can't remember which side the gas flap is on, you have bigger problems than having to put your head out the window

I always forget because We have just bought a New Subaru with the filler on the opposite side to toyotas, Before that all we owned was Toyotas which all seemed to be on the same side, I think it's just a subconscious thing after you've driven a car for a little while you get used to it.
Not that it really matters, because as long as you don't park miles away from the pump, the hose reaches the other side anyway

so its just pure luck if your cars guage points the right way then.... hmmm.

this always sucks when you drive someone elses car, can't find the lever for the flap and can't see it by doing a venturer out the window

Well, I just got home and went to check to see if my post was correct, and yeah its complete bollocks. The little picture in my GTT shows the handle thing on the right but my gas flap is on the left. hahaha
The is exactly the same on my Mums Ford explorer
I feel like an idiot posting this now lol

No, that would be correct. The handle should point towards the side of the car with the gas flap.

See, if you ask me that makes perfect logical sense, and is correct.
