excessive play on super strut links and lower arm joint

hi just wondering if the prices my mechanic gave me is correct or if im getting over charged. well both my superstrut links have excessive play and same with the lower arm joint. (both left and right front). he orderd the parts needed to fix the problem but he said they dont seem to fit, he told me that he cant get the parts he needs as they dont sell it in NZ. therefore i will need to get it rebuilded.. well overall its gonna cost me $630 in total for both superstrut links and lower arm joint rebuilded + the labour. just wondering if im gettin overpriced or if this is reasonable.. cheers

Get your frame number off the car and email warrick (revhead) he will sort you out with the correct parts at the right price. He is in the buy & sell under toyspeed sponsors.

Get the replacement arms from Revhead (Warwick) - past experience people have had indicates that rebuilt joints don't last anywhere near as long as the a genuine replacement.

An how far has the car they came off gone? I'd hate to go to the expense of fitting used suspension bits for them to fail within a year or two, especially if new bits only cost a hundred or two more.

Warwick supplied new ones (3 years ago) to me for $250 per side + frieght for a AE101. However, prices will have changed, and you have a different model of car.

ae101 are rrp $185 for the whole thing each side

ae111 and st20# are over $200rrp each part....

yeah, that was from TOYOTA in east tamaki, brand new bits, just need the frame numbers etc, dont waste your time and money on second hand or rebuilt bits, you will just end up doing the job twice and paying double

but im sure mr revy will do you a better price,

they supplied me with a diagram if you would like to see and outlined the bits that fail most often, (unless there is one on here already)

the kit contains the main bits that fail (the arm and a few other bits and peice) or the arm its self is $185, ( unless i read that wrong) so might as well get the whole lot done at once, (they used to be $650 a side!!!!)

i wanted something on the superstrut in the FAQ as it is quite common but no one was intrested in contributing, as i dont have the knowledge on superstrut to put one together

from what i can gather they will need replacing every 100,000k or even before!

one question,

do you have to take the whole strut out to change or is it a simple unbolt and replace ?

The arms come off with nothing else having to really. Having said that, the arms can be a right b*tch to get out and you usually wreck them getting them out. The price you were quoted doesn't seem too bad at all.

Remember too that if you supply your parts to the mechanic and the is a fault with the arm/joint then you have no comeback and will have to pay for the job to be done again including parts and labour. If you get the mechanic to supply the parts and something goes wrong then the parts and labour are on them. Just incase you are planning on getting the mechanic to fit parts you supply
