2.4l Toyota Cavalier

Postby Adydas » Fri Jun 22, 2007 10:42 pm

Aok guys, help me here google wont.

I realise this car isnt by the sounds of things excatly a toyota it appears to be a limited supplyed car making use of GM parts, so im feeling that as a 2.4l motor its not actually using a toyota motor at all? This correct?

So what i need to know...

What motor is it?

What engine mount system does it use IE will a toyota series engine fit into it, 4a, 3s ,4e what ever family if any it closests matches.

Thats it for the moment..

Its 100% Chevrolet, definitely not a limited supplied car, made for the American market to compete against the Accord/Camry/Tauras(sp).It was the result of George Bush senior wanting to sell more yankee cars in Japan to balance out the trade deficit between Japan and USA.The only thing Toyota on a Cavalier is the badges. The motor is a Chevrolet made engine,a slight variation of the horrible Holden Camira engine. Really that bad!!! Hope you have not got one of these Lemons.

designed by chev, built in canada, sold in japan, shipped here.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE

parts are stupidly $$$ they are a C**T to work on, 8-12 hours for a water pump.....

and they fall apart. electrices are dodgy too.

seriously, dont buy one. if you have sell it.

i agree, these cars are absolute PIGS. i remember pricing up parts for people when i was repco, they just about fainted when i gave them prices for about everything bar the oil filter lol. and their fuel consumption is nasty and the motor is nothing special, would have been better off with a 3sfe. i guess thats why i remember coming across a black 2 door 1996 one with 80,000ks for only 3grand last year! - yikes

I wouldnt touch a cavalier if you paid me to and offered me you daughter, wife, sister and hot cousin...just not worth it.

Ive driven dozens of these at work over the years and Ive never driven a good one.

Rear brakes are prone to locking up (dodgy abs, you have to drive and slam on the brakes a few times untill it resets itself). Also they tend to get warped front rotors.

Engines are shocking for noisy cams, bearings you name it.

Transmissions and electrics are shocking.

But by far the worst thing Ive noticed about them is the fact that they all smell f*cking awfull, I dont know what it is but they all smell exactly the same!!

Ive also heard horror stories about someone who had a smashed windscreen and had to get it ex-US, from memory about $1500 and 3-6 weeks wait... (thats going back about 3-4 years now though)

Thats nothing. One of the guys at work had to replace the windscreen in his legnum 6 years ago and it cost him 3.6k and 8 weeks from japan. Back when legnums were 24k though.
