Solved!!

Postby minijrocks » Wed Dec 19, 2007 6:29 pm

Car started fine this morning then go to start in the arvo and only clicking not even trying to turn over. This happened about a month ago and then next day the car began starting fine up until now. batt is still reading 12-13 volts, so im guessing its the starter motor. I can still roll start it but not sure how long this will last.
its a ae101 4age silvertop.... can someone point out where the starter motor is so i can give a big dirty wack as i cant find where it is. cheers

Problem solved - was my old battery. thanks for the help :D

Before you give it a whack, get the battery checked. Starters are pretty reliable in the 20 valves.

yea the batt is pretty dodgy but would that cause it to just click and not even try to turn over?
cheers for the help

if the battery is stuffed, it can go from cranking over and starting perfect one minute to not even "clicking" the next...

especially if the battery has been drained completely dead before (ie headlights left on ALL day or something)

yea the battery was run dry (no water inside) the other month because its so old and i didn't bother to check it. Ive got it out charging now so if it works when its charged up its def the battery.
Theres a clicking sound when i turn the key but no attempt at starting

you will probably find that the battery under load is not up to par

yup, its amazing how odd a $&#$% battery can behave, replace that sucker. Like redmist said, the 20v starters are bloody tough.

As the other guys said, check the battery under load, turning your lights on is usually the easiest.

clicking certainly points to crap battery, as said by every man and his dog above.

don't even bother charging it, get a new one if yours has run dry, that will stuff them.
