Toyota dealer stuff up

There's not any available in NZ, regardless of which dealership I go to.

The point is, car was 'available' in 7-10 days so my parents sold their car, now they have 3 months with only one car.

If the dealer had told them "yeah you can have one, but it will be 3 months", they would not have sold their car.

how often do you think the car has been put through its paces to see just how fast it does accelerate / corner / drift / do phat skidz au etc etc the usual tests before deciding on buying a certain new car i'm sure

new corolla customers are not the same type that buy an import skyline.....

having worked there, and knowing them very well, im sure if you go in, sit down and explain your problem, they will try and find a solution

You obviously aren't one of the salesmen then. I'm a new car buyer and I rape the demo everytime. Test drive, in other words testing. Testing to see what it can take. Most salesmen expect it and aren't suprised when you do it.
The type of car is irrelevant.

Demos get caned, end of story.

People who buy them do so to save a buck. I would rather pay a little more to know someone like myself hasn't been testing it.

Has been a couple of "I'll talk to the boss and I'll sort it out", and "leave it in my hands" type phone conversations after explaining the situation.

But no one got in contact with them at all yesterday, so I'm suspicious it could be another dead end.

Will tell my folks to actually go into the dealership, they would be happy with any old corolla (or similar) as a loan car in the meantime.

And with the quite sticky 195s, 81kW and 140 odd nM she's not exactly the skid mahine from hell.

But the reason my olds buy new cars...is that they like to know how they've been treated.

You could always ask the dealership if they could forward the credit note to the Mitsi/Honda dealer down the road.
When I bought my Commodore, I initially bought a ute, but had to change to a sedan, The dealer shipped a car up from Wellington for me to test drive, and buy, rather than drop the sale.
Then when I enquired about a Chrysler 300C wagon, the dealer said September, a white one, November , a black one. It was May at the time and they couldn't guarantee delivery, even with a deposit.

just get the deposit back and threaten fair go if they wont give it back, then perhaps look at buying a different car. Otherwise just bite the bullet and wait a while.

I'd get my deposit back in a flash if it was me. The sales person should not say i can get you this car unless they have it guaranteed. Useless muppets.

Maybe they should refer to trademe rules, you can't sell what you don't physically have in your possession.

maybe they should not take deposits for cars they can't guarantee to have for sale.

if they used the above idea, they wouldn't have this customer stuck with no car. I know they won't stop "selling" cars they don't have, but IMO they shouldn't take deposits to secure cars that they themselves can't secure.

What exactly is the deposit for if to not secure a car the dealer says they will get for the customer

they get told they are getting certain cars.
and that gets changed. maybe it was because the cars didnt arrive from japan. maybe the car was damaged in transit maybe it was something else.

happens more than you would think... and not just with cars.

I suspect with hot selling items like these corollas, it doesn't really work that way.

It would be in place if we made cars here... probably.

Or not- fact is we no longer make cars here, and we are a small market for Japan, so chances are we will get what we're given.

Even in the UK there are no guarantees.. my late uncle years ago bought a brand new mini metro, ordered a blue one, with sunroof and no labels/ trim.

He got a grey one, with no sunroof and labels. His old car had just died, he really needed a new car, so he took it- had no choice at the time. And they made them there, but the dealers also got what they were given...

Has been all fixed now...but the olds had to meet with the dealer ("there's nothing we can do."), then put to new car sales manager ("there's nothing we can do."), then to the CEO of the company ("there's nothing we can do."). Until my old man suggested that a trip to Fair Go was on the cards.
A loan car was quickly found in Blenheim (new Corolla hatch, 5th and 6th seem crazily close together?!). My parents won't be buying another new Toyota after this experience....have tried to tell them that the IS250 is a Lexus....

I was reading an ad in the Press on the weekend from Miles Toyota here in CHCH, they claimed, well advertised the fact, a special on 2007 Corolla Wagons. Surely if these guys are advertising a special, they have access to stock? Only in white for $19,900 or so. Other colours available for an extra $1000.
