SR20DE into ae85 tips?

Postby moose.cannon » Wed Jan 02, 2008 4:50 pm

Hi all,
I've got an SR20DE lined up for my ae85 and was wondering if anyone has done or knows someone who has done this before? I had a lil search and found deinmuter's post but wasn't really that helpful. The reason for the SR20 is because a tree owned my mates s14 and i'm getting it cheap so i pretty much have a whole silvia to rip parts off minus a few things. I've just recently removed the 3au and auto trans and just have to pick up the engine from hamz soon. I know there is fabrication needed for the mounts and possibly the area around the shifter but i dont think you have to modify the firewall. Any helpful information would be much appreciated!
how do I turn this on ?

ive put one into a kp61 which wasn't the easiest.

the silvia box is quite long so you will more than likely need to fab new mounts on the chassis and a new shifter hole.

the gearbox tunnel may be to small also and depending on how far you want to sit the engine back you may need to cut the firewall too.

an ae85 will be alot easier than a kp61 as it has a much larger engine bay.

My project

very nice work man, i'd been following your project for a while and was very impressed, bet it goes hard! whats the curb weight of those kp's? much different to the ae85/86's ? i know they are about 860–940 kg, will be a bit heavier with and SR in there but worth it :)

i think they weigh around 800kgs but mine will probably be a bit heavier.

an s14 sr20de should make more power than mine as it has 10:1 vs 9.5:1 compression ratio and vtc. they make around 160 fly hp standard
