Emmisions changes info - new imports

I have also included a (bad quality) pic of my RunX chassis plate so you can see where this code can be found. As you can see, the model for the RunX is a TA-ZZE123-AHFQF-A, The important bit being the TA at the beginning, meaning that it conforms to the emmisions standard known as "Japan 00/02"

Toyota seem to be pretty good at making it easily recognisable, other manufactures it is somewhat harder.

I assume that at the auctions that dealers get stuff from they are told this when buying?

with laws like this, would this stop me from importing a parts car from japan?

like, i want to import a R32 GTR in the future, which obviously cant go on the road anyway, so id use it for parts. could it be rejected from being imported because it doesnt meet new import/emission laws?

Na, you can import whatever you like, its just getting it registered is the problem.

thanks for this, handy to know, most places I've seen that import will tell you the code or show you a copy of the vin plate and from the looks of that a lot of stuff that was new in japan from 98 onwards should still be allowed in during this year...

Thats pretty much it. atleast for petrols(as opposed to deisels) it is anyway.

There are some that are 98 and 99 that don't comply to the 98 standard... not too sure on how they made it onto the street in japan land, but they seem to have.

while shopping for cars relatively recently I took an S2K for a spin and it blew my mind how good it was.

If they came in a hardtop, I'd have one... unfortunately the only Hard tops available for them cost a lot... 2-7k a lot.

As far as identifying cars go... Toyota, Honda, and Nissans I have seen all have the relevant letters prior to the vehicle chassis code... ie: E-KP61, E-DC2 and so on....

Economy yes.. Reliability yes..

But...

Ease of modification Noooooo...

The S2000 is set up to be fantastic from factory but you need to spend up large to improve on it. You cant just upgrade the performance without upgrading the rest meaning any change means you need to modify the entire vehicle which will cost you bucketloads. Even the top Jap tuning shops cant do much to make these better...

As for an RX7

Try 400hp, 9000rpm if you want, big brakes, great suspension all for the price of an S2000

Dont get me wrong - I love the S2000 - i even looked at buying one but couldn't justify the cost involved because i knew i'd get bored of the power.

Mitsubishi and Mazda are the same as well - my 1980 Eterna is E-A164A while my 1993 Galant is E-E54A.

yeah but the damn noise they make... some love it, I can't stand the rubber-band-ness of them.

fuel economy and insurance costs will play a big part too. I like the S2000 as well, the idea of a well balanced nimble RWD car with an N/A engine being able to scream up to 9000rpm excites me - much more than the sheer outright power of the RX-7. I would imagine the S2000 to be waaaaaay more reliable than an RX-7.

insurance is $600 a year cheaper than the Series 7 i have now.
Other insurance bonuses include a cheaper excess, and being with state rather than NAC.

A newer car overall (2000 vs 96).

Better fuel economy, cheaper to fill (my friend pays about $80-$90 a tank whereas im paying $120+ a tank).

More reliable engine. Although I will admit that parts availability would be less for the S2K.

You can turbo a stock s2k relatively easily.

I cant imagine the S2k being any more above my driving ability than the RX7 anyway, I'm only 21 and I've been driving for 5 years including my learners and restricted.
Ive been for a drive in my friends AP1 S2k, it was pretty impressive for a N/A 4cyl with dick-all low end torque.

I love my rotors, and i have owned the FD for almost half a year now. If I don't like the s2000, I can sell it and use that money to get another FD and have money left over for mods on the RX.

plus vtax, it just kicked in.
