are you still technically meant to change your cars rego so its a 2 seater, or was that just an old wives tale?

And where is the form/place that you do this?

Since when does the rego system care how many seats you have?

(not saying its wrong, im asking)

i had this problem with a VTNZ wof and they said i had to cover the whole area with wood or weld the mounts, then change the rego to a two seater with some form just like getting a rego.
so i just went and got some seats and belts from p-a-p

BS again, if they say something like that ask them to point where in the VIR manual says that

No you don't there is no provision for that.

You don't need to: register as 2 seater (no such thing), or weld up the seatbelt mounts, or cover with wood etc. What you need to do is remove seat belts if you are missing seats. Thats it. It has been covered here before.

I covered all my seltbelt holes with tape when i had no back seats. Not neccesary i think but got wofs fine.
Not too sure if you need to reg it as a two seater i think people just do that so they can get black tints for the sides of their wagons?

Some one explain how the hell you reg a car as a two seater. Or a 7 seater or a 1 seater.

I think its all shit to be honest. Why the hell does the reg system care how many seats there are.

Well I had a GT-x Festiva and it had no back seat or seatbelts and was registered as a light commercial van. which meant If I wanted I could Tint the windows 5% if I wanted to.

It might not matter when it comes to wofs etc, but it definitely comes up in LandTransport system registered as 2/4/5 (etc) seats...

My thinking would be that if it DOES get registered as a 2 seater after removing rear seats and belts, it might need cert when you put them back in...obviously this is only my opinion, complete baseless and probably wrong

They never changed mine when the seats were removed, I can't see why they would if I put the seats back in.

gotta be careful about the "van" thing
MUST be registered as a commercial vehicle, and be used for that purpose.
otherwise a van like the above, or my KE70 (which was sold new as a van) would normally be registered as MA class and the normal rules apply.
real vans however can be tinted darker.

Because rego'd as a two seater used to give you a nice reduction in the registration costs. From what I gather its now the same no matter what class of car.

GFs EE80 is reged as a two seater, she wont let me black out the rear windows however

when you take a car for WOF, it will come up on the computer as to how many seats it was complied for. i went to road register the Levin as a road car, before i turned it into a club car and was thrown out on only having 2 seatbelts in the rear instead of the 3 it was complied for.
may have changed since.
