IMO For this one we should have people front up with a $60 unrefundable deposit when they say they will come, this way it gets rid of any problems that we had with the last one!

My reasoning for this is people have time off work usually & they could combine it into a bit of a holiday too.

Accommodation at that time of year in those traditional party towns tends to be at an absolute premium, and often local food type places ramp up prices to match.
Labour weekend is always gonna be the one 8)
Welly could be good, close enough so southern members dont have to mission for hours.

I'm happy travelling as far as CHCH from Auckland. If I put money away now it'll be cheap as chips. That and knowing a few guys from up here if its a convoy it will be an absolute hoot. If you honestly can't be arsed driving from Auckland you will be missing out on a great time, and I can honestly say that in advance.

Bring back old fuel prices and you'll probably get that.

Having said that though I already talked to ASB today about setting up an account for me to transfer $50 a fortnight into. Figure that gives me around $1,000 for megameet. I think that'll be enough maybe? And I'll use work bonuses for preping car and helmet and overalls etc.

See plenty of time. And I can't save for shit. Can we set up an account to pay into early - that way I can't pike like I did last time - Excuse: "I would drop out, but I have already paid" :)

Unfortunately fuel prices are here to stay, and I'm quite honestly sick about people whining about it. You still save money to travel overseas, you still save money for Christmas presents, its not hard to save money for a good time with some friends and like minded people

And Darkwolf you've got the right idea, just as long as we don't hear people bleating about not having enough warning closer to the time that they couldn't save enough money

I've done Dunedin to Nelson in approx 9 hours from memory with a few stops on the way & it wasn't too bad, still managed to party till what ever time the Nelson pubs shut.
So it's doable in a day for sure, & Ferry time is free sleep time.

If its decided by about the end of Feb early March where its gona be probally be best for those of us trying to plan around going to it

pffft get fcuked!

Unfortunately The first megameet was attended by bugger all lo9cals - it was quite embarrassing really, but alot of good guys and girls came down from Northwards and made it a weekend to remember.

IMO the best one I've been to was the Christchurch one. Wellington TS as a collective fund raised for it with things like car washes, Sausage sizzles etc to make the ferry crossing cheaper, People pulled out so it made it even cheaper for the rest of us

I'd like to see it in Chch again as the road trip was so much fun.

If your worried about cost, as people have said - START SAVING NOW - we weren't in a very good financial position for the chch one, we bought a $20 MTA voucher every 2nd week or so when we could afford it, and saved a little for food/accommodation etc and it worked out quite easy.

Anyone that uses the student thing as an excuse is a twat, most of them spend more on alcohol in a month than I 'd spend on groceries!! 8O

Still not allowed to buy alcohol for another 2 weeks

All right, say the worst come to the worst and MM is held in CHCH (worst being from my financial point of view) How much would it be expected to cost? It's only the long weekend aye..

Travel Planner.co.nz puts the trip at 990kms, assume 10km/L.
3 nights accomodation at $50 per night.
Activities at $100 per day
Ferry is $350 return

(990/10) x 1.90 x 2 = $380
3 x $50 = $ 150
3x $100 = $ 300
=$ 350

= $ 1180

well my vote would have to be taupo great location awesome track which includes circuit and drag racing and plenty of places to stay and i'm sure we could arrange a farmer to lend us a Paddock if need be
you seem to worring about money but IMO if you really want something you'll want to go right?

so lets all band together and bring back the good old TS spirit and do some old fashioned fund raising in every region.

lets say each region made $500 we could almost cover accomodation and or ferry costs which in turn will bring on more travellers and make for a better MM08

now don't be afraid it might involve getting out there and promoting your club and doing some hard work but i'm sure we are all able to handle such a task
