Hey guys,

Having a bad day. Just ran a big end bearing on my black top 4age. (levin)

Dont know what to do, how much do new motors go for? just need a long block. Engine only, no manifolds including sensors. How much would it cost to get it recond? im pretty sure itd be an expensive affair but any ideas?

Anyone keen on a

you wouldnt sell it as is for 6k with a blown engine, they go for that in working order and ok condition now, more like 4k with a blown engine.

at a guess , engine rebuild maybe ~2-2.5k
replacement engine installed by yourself ~1k
replacement engine installed by workshop maybe ~2k

you'll have cost of new fluids etc, probly wanna do a new clutch (300ish) while its out and new belts etc.

most economical way would be to swap a second hand engine in yourself , and sell it if you really need to.

Drop the sump and big ends and have a look to see how bad the crank is? Chuck some new bearings in and see if noise is gone

How bad are they?

Yup.

we sold one with rough body and interior, but still blacktop manual, for around 2.5k a few months back, and it was on the yard for a few months at that.

yeah id noticed the prices dropping badly on these, ive heard of them selling for 5-6k but i'd just assumed they were poor examples. it happens eventually, they are over 10 years old now

My one IMO was a resonably good example although had high K's But a newly reconditioned engine and sold for $4300!

For memory my rebuild (rings/gaskets/bearings) cost about $2000 all up, but that's because the bores were ok etc....

I think it also depends on where you are in the country & what how desperate the buyer is.
I got offered $7500 for my ae101 fxgt the other week in dunedin, if I had been in a better financial position to buy a decent car, i would of taken the offer, especially since it now seems to be way high.
Though my car does have pretty low k's & pretty decent paint.

But yeah without a working engine, i'd say 2.5g perhaps

cost me $700 to rebuild my partners 1.
$470.00 to get head surfaced valve's angle cut.
the rest went on gaskets head bolts and rings and bearings.

However it didn't have a run bearing i didn't want to risk that happening so just rebuilt it.

You just need to shop around a little.

I know of one for $900 with loom flywheel clutch etc, just get it sent up from south island and get it bolted in, i'm sure the guy will get it transported up to you no worries, PM if interested

He MAY be keen to take the throttles off or something which might save you the cost of sending it up, food for thought
