and this one popped up because there is the need for a decision on the location.

I vote Palmy, simple because I want the track day and its only two hours from Wellington to get there.
Alternatively Wellington is easy peasy for me, though motor activities would (from my perspective) be limited.

In terms of travel, I do a lot of roadtrips to shows around the country with the SQNZ crowd and in the end, we just pay all the costs because we treat it as our vacation time and a break from work.

We tend to take lots of mini vacations instead of one big blow out.
In terms of cost, we spread the cost of running a vehcile between friends
eg show car went to Chch from Welly, we had two cars all up and 4 people. We split the cost evenly for the return transport on the ferry and all fuel costs so 1 person paid one way ferry and one way to chch.

It worked out easy as and its not too much of an issue if the costs are down the middle.

Yes, some people are not willing to travel such far distances, and would prefer to have in their backyard to save on costs, but in the end, that will never work and if you want to participate then you have to pay to play.

You work, you save, you pay, you play.

My vote is for CHCH.

p.s. It better not be something stupid like having the meet in Welly and having to drive all the way to Manfield for a trackday then all the way back to welly, as the logistics of that, broken cars, cooked brakes, etc won't go down too well with some of us.

that was a logical conclusion that Adydas and myself were discussing and the logical answer was to base everything in Palmerston North.

By basing everything in Palmy will more or less replicate last years meet. A different location i.e. Taupo/CHCH provides a different track, different locations for cruises, environment and gives more people from those areas access to it. By going back to Palmy (not that I have any issues as I love going back to catch up with mates), means that you're going to get generally the same group of people +/- the odd random who comes along and those who can actually afford to do it. Need to spread the love around brother!

i tend to disagree with that statement Girvs from what we all learnt last year we (the Club) could make for an even better MM08 (not baging last year at all) but take the Grand prix and A1GP each year they are getting better and better so just think we could make MM08 in Palmy huge

Thats a fair enough comment bud. But I am only raising the opinions that others may not have opted to comment on, and something that those who are planning the event may need to take into account (should they not have already considered).

Looking forward to seeing the outcome either way.

P.S. Can we get something stable going? I've seen posts appear and disappear WRT to accom, the meet itself, planning and so forth. If the mods opt to put a post up can you please keep it there.

I think taupo would be cool, but I think one of the main reasons why MM07 was the local people who made it happen. Depending if there was someone in Taupo to organise everything.

i say we choose somewhere which is equidistant from the majority of toypeed members. that way the majority of people have the same distance to drive :)

at least that way if people are going to be complaining about the drive it can be both sides complaint. makes it more fair that way :p

Like i said, if people are interested and the mods? i can talk to my friends father who owns the Taupo Top 10 Hoiladay Park, even talk to Chelles and possibly organise a trackday? shes certanly in the know reguarding trackdays and if we run that style we wont end up with the s**t fight like MM07 with the manfield trackday

Usually someone from the region where its held. TS Sponsors usually help out with prizes for events.

Theres at least a couple of venues under serious consideration... we've done a few of these (all-but yearly since 2003) so we have a fair idea of what's on the cards.

No decision yet made, but one will come soon - at which point a lot of the 'dissapearing threads' will reappear in the relevant forums and planning will begin in earnest.

BTW Megameet ~= Trackday. To me a Trackday can be entirely seperate - theres plenty of other options... Grasskhana, go-karting or other motorised sports come to mind...
Or how about some events that aren't tied to speed.. like a 'mobile rally' (solving clues and finding things around town), etc etc.
