they only get picky once u start doing a national level event.

but atm i am just tossing ideas around looking at what i can do. not what i will do.

We've got lots of FIA Approved seats in stock NZ, Zeta III (this week) $1050 fixed non-recliner, Evo and Evo II (fixed non recliner) from Sparco and Corsa from Sparco also.

ok here is a question.

is there some sort of mechanism you can buy when when u pull the release the seat will hinge forward. that way you could have a fixed bucket that hinged out of the way.

Remove rear seats and seat belt, problem solved (right? Anyone want to chip in? If no ability to take passengers, no need for recliners..). Oh and the Sparco FIA approved seats above start around $850 IIRC!

As far as I know you don't need FIA seats to race in this country unless your racing in an international motorsport event, eg. rally NZ, A1GP, V8 series, If you are not having a rollcage and have rear seats then I'm sure your not doing these sort of events.

Although I suppose it is good to have piece of mind when it comes to an accident as I've heard of some aftermarket seats ripping the mounts out of the seat bases in an accident. At the same time the racetech 4000W is FIA approved whereas the 4000 is not, They are almost identical but they haven't bothered paying the FIA $$$$$$ to get it certified.

whislt using FIA spec seats is highly recommended, there are only a few top level events that actually stipulate their use. currently, they don't need to be FIA spec for an authority card either.
definately shop around, not all seats are as comfortable or priced similar, and there are some good FIA seats (including NZ made Racetech) from the $500-ish mark.

unlikely to work. a fixed seat headrest will probably hit the windscreen before it is out of the way.
i'm intersted to see the rollcage design you hope to use. it's hard enough clambering over side intrustion bars to get to front seats, let alone the back seats, and the backstays of the main hoop will be in the rear seat space anyway.
not trying to be a smart-ar5e, but i believe what you are hoping to achieve is either totally impractical, or a poorly thought out waste of time and energy, as i'm yet to see a car that requires an FIA seat, that can still completely utilise the rear seat once a cage has been installed.

decide what you want to use the car for, and build accordingly.

ok i was incorrect about the FIA approval, dunno where i had been told otherwise.

cage design as i said will work fine. no point speculating on it as i will show it once its done.

pretty sure i know what seat ill get now so im happy and sorted.

but will it be legal, or a waste of tube and time.
there are homologated cages in NZ that follow the roof line in the rear occupant space, but they cannot be built now, as the backstays must be straight, like wise these cages cannot be modified legally without replacement.

but in saying that, you obviously know more about rollcage design and have worked out what will work legally.

And seeing as your cage must be fitted within all suspension points/towers, where is your diagonal brace going to fit? Once that is in the back somewhere, there isn't much room for anything or anyone else. And I'm pretty sure that it's all about intrusion into occupant space that stops you from having the back seats available for seating.

The FIA seat is required if you have removed any safety equipment like airbags etc.
See ya

Evo II is $915 / seat. Though the Buddyclub seats start at $595 and look as hawt. Anyhow - as a point of interest, if you do own a hatch with 2 doors, and you have removed your rear seats and seatbelts, are fixed buckets then 'legal'?

FIA and reclinable? i could be worng but im poretty sure thats impossible....

when looking at TRD do not pay any attention to the yen price on the website
it has nothing to do with the price here in NZ. it says that in the intro page

but those new TRD seats are not cheap.

would it?

i am by no means an expert on cages but i am pretty sure something like the above cage would work

here are the other cage designs in the MSNZ manual

There are no Bride reclinerable seats that are FIA Approved. You won't get a reply from Bride either, since you don't speak Japanese (assumed!). You could always just ask 'us' as a Bride dealer =]
