but like i have said i have been informed that it is not required.

reason being that i can drive the car everyday and have passengers. but when i want to take it to the track and put it into and event which requires a cage i can.

to run a cage you need MSNZ authority card
which means running in a certain number of events each year
to run in events you need the right equipment.
FIA approved seats are one of those things....

now from that i would assume that a non FIA seat designed for competition use that meets an internationally recognized safety standard is acceptable.

I'm not sure about the back seat + roll cage thing eh.. pretty sure something about passengers hitting their head on it in the event of an accident is a big no no, I'm sure leon will be able to tell you whether you can do it or not.

IMO if you're going to be entering events that you need a roll cage for, often enough for it to actually be worth forking out for the cage, then you should just bite the bullet, dump the rear seat and put some proper fixed back seats in.

I think that what you intend on doing is silly. Get another car for a daily to carry passengers if necessary... It sounds like you just want to be able to take your friends for a ride around town in a 'race car'
Leon no longer works at motorsport but is still fully versed in the rules, so PM him if you want a better idea of the smart way of doing things.

Race seats are for safety (reclinable does not equal safety), cages are for safety (not having intrusion bars is silly). both have some benefit to the driving of the car, but neither are suitable for a daily driver.

We've had them before, informally, but they do tend to wax and wane as people deal with project cars and learning about race stuff.

It would be pretty easy for me to answer the questions, but I can't interweb during week hours, so can only answer stuff outside that time.

sorry i am wrong. if you were to use ratchet tie-downs and strap them to the roof or boot, then, and only then will the backstays not interfere with the passenger space.

Just a little point here, People seem to think you need race seats if you have a roll cage and authority card, You can run standard seats if you like! As far as I know you are not forced to run race type seats if you want to have a cage or enter basic motorsport events.

Try doing some single car sprints etc, maybe just change your drivers seat to get a bit more support for yourself and if passengers are permitted in the event you are entering (probably not these types though) let them use the jesus handles.

Once you've had a go at these then consider a cage or half cage, Once you start down the path of roll bars theres no turning back. I've done 2 years of motorsport events and you'd be surprised at the amount of events you can do in a normal car
