simota heat shield?

hey guys.

do you think the simota heat shield for my pod filter will actually stop hot engine air from being sucked in? obviously a cold airbox is the better option but its a mission and im thinking i could just buy this heat shield.. clip it on and problem solved.. what do you guys reckon?

p.s. bought some 15" mags for my car today.. just waiting for them to arrive. will post a pic when i get em on.. churr

Hows it gonna stop hot air being sucked in? It only covers half the surface.

Won't do anything. The air in the whole engine bay is hot, so shielding the filter will do nothing unless it happens to be right next to the exhaust manifold or even a hot water line.

A shield is exactly that, a shield. If you put a burning hot exhaust manifold next to it then its going to help stop some of the radiated heat from heating up or melting the filter. It is in no way going to prevent anything being sucked around it.

if ya wanna block the pod off try moving the battery and getting a cold air box made

My tried to put a Simota pod on his STi WRX, bug eye with the weird air box, sensor setup.
He was gona put that shield ontop of the filter... To stop the hot bonnet? lol Stupid.

it would stop/slow radient heat, but I wouldn't think that radient heat would be that much of an issue with a pod

The intakes on cars suck so much air through them that they are sledom higher than ambient anyway... although if they are sucking straight from the engine bay, ambient is 50c+

the thing is its a mission to get an airbox made as my intake pipe is a short ram and the pod sits just above the battery, so i would have to move the battery or relocate it to the boot, then extend the intake pipe so it sits in the corner and then get a box made up..

Or get a K&N panel filter and fit the factory airbox if it still has cold air ducting?

Would be better for performance.

yeh my factory air hose was split so thats one of the main reasons i got the intake pipe and pod.

Way back when i had my FX with 4age in it, i fitted a pod filter, noticed a significant drop in fuel economy, as it was sucking alot of hot air.
Replaced the it with the factory box and K&N panel filter, and my fuel economy improved quite a bit.
