Does anyone have anything to say about Oil Changers? I was thinking of taking my 92' MR2 G-Limited Manual (155,000KM) to them to get an engine flush, oil change, diff oil change, fuel injector clean and coolant system flush.

I am a little apprehensive to go back to them as an automatic transmission flush I had through them ended up ruining my old 89' Honda Prelude's transmission.

Thoughts?

$&#$% stupidly expensive!!!!! i took the X GFs peugeot 405 diesel to them as the sump bung is a square fitting and i dont have the right tool, i supplied the oil and filter and was $42 for ten minutes labour i almost died. i will NEVER take a car there again NEVER!

Remember you don't just pay for the labour, there is the equipment and stuff ie hoists, rent, recycling, tools all that stuff.

Somewhere with expert oil changers? Sounds like a bunch of people who failed at being mechanics (no offence to anyone who works there).

Just do it yourself. Oil change in nothing on an SW20, if you have a hose, a funnel and a 24mm socket then you can do the diff oil yourself easily enough. Fuel injector isn't overly complicated if you know how to put petrol in the car.

Coolant change in one of those might be worth taking it somewhere that knows SW20s as they are horrible to get right

Agree with Lloyd on that one. Altho oil change might be a bit difficult as the filter location on early 3SG's is a bit tricky. They figured it out with the gen 3's tho

why take it to someone who caused the failure of your last car??

thats just madness, find a good local mechanic if you can do it yourself and get them to do it.

If you have a small 3 legged oil filter tool and don't do the oil change with the engine hot then they aren't too bad for getting at the filter. With them hot and no tool for it they can be a bit of a b*tch.

And as above, if they broke something last time then why go back?

save your self the money for better things and do it youself imo, there are lots of videos / write ups of these sort of things on the internet just search for them and it should be a peice of cake.

i'm no expert - so take this with a grain of salt (i'm sure someone will correct me

)

Easy:
oil change - easy enough to do yourself / with a helping hand if really noob
fuel injector clean - buy a bottle of injector clean from supercheap and put it in with ya petrol - done.

Not sure:
engine flush - heard bad stories, wouldn't flush my engine.
diff oil change - no idea, i'm thinking tho gearbox/diff = same oil so maybe get gearbox oil changed.
coolant system flush. - toyota could be the go for this and gearbox oil change.

If you really don't want to give it a go, i'd probably go to toyota as people have mentioned that the cooling system isn't a simple thing to flush, so you would want people working on it who deal in your model of car all the time.

yer in a mr2 u can jack the frount up a lil so the air comes to the higest point.gearbox has a filler and a drain on the bottom and side,oil is easy as,filter a lil fidley,but no biggy,i dont recomend infector cleeaner some of there are a lil suspect and can clog fuel pump,i would just run it neally empty and give it a healthy tank of 98!

If you jack up the back and take your time they arnt toooo bad, but still not as easy as something with the radiator at the same end of the car. Have to get all the air out of the system, this is the time consuming bit.

How do you make sure you've got all the air? I've been wanting to flush the cooling system in my aw but I've heard bad stories about airlocks...

If the filter is really f#$kn tight and nothing works.
Will busting a screwdriver through it do any damage to the engine?

AE86less: Coolants not so bad on an aw car as long as you take your time and undo all the bleed taps and do them up in the right order, jacking rear of your car makes it a bit easier. I have no idea of sw though as I have never done one.

shouldn't do, a oil filter wrench is an option too.
Doing my AW wasn't bad, just time consuming.

Good advice, I will take it. Also thanks to everyone else who has replied. Damn you guys don't muck around on this forum. Rapid replies. I may have to showcase my ride on here....
