ST205 info/help ??

Postby lucasthefallen » Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:13 pm

ok well i have purchased a 1997 st205, arrives from japan in about 2 weeks.

as far as mod's go im looking just for a full exhaust ( turbo back ), and probly just a trd panel filter. trd springs and a EBC.

now, finding buy-off-the-shelf bits is proving a little difficult.

im mainly after a downpipe, and possibly the rest of the system. where should i be looking???

also as far as EBC's go, any good or back feedback on different products??

cheers

greddy profec B spec 2 for boost control. very reliable, can pick em up for ~$500 now.
although i would wait until you get a full exhaust as that will up your boost level to start with.

TRD springs and TRD panel filter, send an email to Mr Revhead from these forums with the frame and model numbers and he will tell you what he has available. there is a thread somewhere with the contact info for him and his bitches at toyota.

as for an exhaust, it can be hard to find off the shelf items, i would just get one custom made. be cautious with a 3" downpipe as can cause boost spikes/overboosting.

Don't get TRD panel filters, they are non-washable. Get K&N panle replacement, Warwick can supply them as well.

Just stick with a paper element and keep it clean. K&N filters arent effecient unless oiled regularly and wont flow much over a stock paper element.

I also wouldnt bother with higher rate springs on a car now over 10 years old without upgrading the shocks. My 97 shocks with about 100k kms on them cant respond to stock spring rates. My 94 with lowering springs and new shocks still doesnt respond well to the spring rate rise.

Downpipe is the same as the 185 and you should find a heap of them on tardeme. Just note that the inlet manifold is different to that of the 185, so dont purchase one of the inlet manifold and downpipe bundles.

The best thing you can do for your 205 is get some very good tyres and make sure the front superstrut joints dont have any give.
The answer is Helmholtz!

if you want uprated 205 suspension, frank aka the longest name in history AKA NZNEWgroupAGT4 ( one of the other guys here who has one of the 4 NZ new group A's ) has a set of TRD adjustables up fro grabs with springs to suit i believe, he just upgraded recently to coil overs

Whiteline rear Swaybar is the best mod ever youc an do to a St205 IMHO , best bang for bucks

Exhausts , wel HKS do a very very good quality cat back setup , Aussie exhaists in Brisbane OZ do a Excellent front dump pipe , and midpipe/cat ..

This is what i have under my car - all stainless , all 3 inch ..

Cost a pretty penny but worth every cenbt for guaranteed quality workmanship with less chance of cheap replica Dumps cracking ..

Dunno much about boost controllers , as mine doesnt really need one atm - 18 PSI is your boost cut , tweak it to around there however you like or enjoy the factory ecu allowing that boost on those cold cold NZ nights

Apexi make a sweet bolt in St205 pod fiilter/intake pipe cmbno that eliminates the rubber one fron the factory and the big airbox , everything bolts up , quality once again is assured , and its worth it if you can afford it

Greenline , Repco ( yay my work ) and redline performance can supply these bits

Thats My 2 cents ..

personally i wouldnt bother with fancy boost controllers - Just get an ECU that can do the lot for you , like the powerFC ( discontinued ) or the wolf V500 Plug and play ECU

Um, didn't think you could register a 1997 import for the road any more?
