Because only megasquirt users built their own ECUs ;).

Hell I can build an ECU - but heaven forbid I power tune my car :P

i tune mine, both with links. way too far to nearest decent dyno not to.
buying all the gear isnt cheap, but worth it if your going to be making alot of changes.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING

doesn't take much to stuff an engine, and if your not quite confident with something. it's easier for the majority to pay someone who knows what they are doing, and know it's gonna be safe.

i have done all my own cruise and part throttle tuning but left the full throttle full boost to the dyno, much safer for the engine and more importantly other road users.
current cars:
Evo 4 230Kw atw
1971 mini.
79 bugeye 245kw atw.
Evo powered mx5 under construction

OK I agree - I tuned mine for cruise etc - data logging does wonders - but yeah, power tunes are easier and safer when done on a dyno. Especially in your case mjrstar - that thing would be scary enough trying to drive in a straight line let along trying to tune....haha
