cost to turbo 4age?

Postby Jooce » Mon Mar 03, 2008 6:54 pm

hey guys.

ive saved up a bit of money and im looking at some forced induction for my 4age, i know this is asking how long a piece of string is but if i wanted to get a decent turbo setup on my car how much do you think i would be looking at? im not looking at turning it into a drag car or anything like that, i pretty much just wana keep up with a turbo skyline, wrx etc. Pretty much all of my mates have them and i wana do something different and show them they arent the only cars that can haul ass. looking for info from guys that have done this before..

Do a search, this has been covered so many times. And your best bet is probably just to buy Freds turbo Trueno setup already as you'll get something reliable for a fraction of the cost it would be to do it yourself

And yes Freds one is the one you drool over on trademe.

6k isn't going to get you a decent setup as I doubt you'll be doing much of the work yourself.

i drove freds car down the quater mile, the white one on trademe with kit. i actually drove it to a 13.5 not a 13.7 as the auction says on trademe, drives pretty nice too, off boost isnt' too bad, and on boost is just hella fun

it seems as though there are enough of these around now you dont need to build your own, kinda takes the fun out of it i guess but at least it cuts out the swear words.

what are you guys up to 15k Ripped IMO.

8.9:1 comp GZE $1000, manifold $500, turbo $500 (t28 etc), clutch $500-1000, Link $1300, tuning $700 OR Std comp $1-200, misc oil lines BOV etc $1000. 6K EASY. or save the hassle and just but a complete GZE loom and comp like i said.

there has been many a std blue top plus turbo in diag mode lasting full D1 seasons, yeah rangi but just prooves forgies etc are not necessary fot it to be relaible.

oh and why do you want to run your small port head??

GZE come in big and small port..

You'd probably want to rebuild the engine, you also haven't included labour costs in that etc. You're at 6k on parts along basically.

10k is a realistic budget

Good for you etc, you haven't allowed for fuel system, inter cool and pipeing, cert and the epic amounts of labour that would be required, plus the 1000 or so other little bits and bobs that get forgotten about.
