My setup was done all by myself except for fabrication and engine assembley (rings) as bazz said you get what you pay for i hate to think what his setup has cost by now,
the equation is More$=More Reliabilty &Power

The whole point in my mind of building anything with 4age is that it will be cheap/fun/reliable.

Pouring $15k into a turbo setup you would hope to reep some very very very good results.

Theres nothing wrong with the idea of building a 4agte for under 6k, and i find it crazy people are criticising this. You should be more open minded when it comes to a motor thats as expendable as a 4age (you can pick up a silver top for $300 on tardme).

If someone drilled holes in there conrods, carved up there crankshaft, and turned there block into cheese with a drill, they did it all themselves and got more power outta the engine then standard i say go for it. If you can slap a turbo on a standard bluetop with it in diagnostics mode and it runs for the next 10,000km hassle free. I Say do it man.

At the end of the day this is all for a laugh and a skid.

You wouldnt spend $6k on a standard bluetop turbo conversion.....

Dirty old turbo = $300
Injectors = $100
Log Manifold = Do it yourself

Then some oil lines and some ecu trickery. And if you really want it an intercooler.

sell your NA levin and buy one thats already turbo.

like people have said, get the right car and you would never be able to build it for the buy cost.

cheap and nasty turbo conversions ftw, i plan to give it a try to pop my bluetop once i have another engine ready to go in. but i dunno if thats what this guy is after - doesnt sound too mechanically minded.

D1 mule - your 7AGE sounds mean, i was just pointing out why someone might have called it a standard engine.

haha yeah i hope it was mean i sold it before i ever used it as i crashed my 85.

it can be done cheap, very cheap, but is labour intensive so if not doing the majority of the your yourself would not be cost effective for gains, so ill jump on the band wagon, buy one thats done already, sell your ae92 and with the money you already have should have about $8k that should get ya somethin

In that case...

in before the lock!

Also, $6k gets you a ST-185 with twin-entry turbo and four wheel drive goodness, another $4-6 gets you a ST-205. Mitsies, Soobies and skylines may have the power, but the Mitsoobies are only in front of you while they are still going (and not up on blocks) and there probably aren't that many Skylines left in that good a condition, so it's a matter of time for most of them too.

Celica GT-4's on the other hand though... just sayin'. :D

Or if you're after a ST205 in good mechanical condition, just needs some minor panel work and paint you could have one of mine for 5.5k.
Considerably quicker than any 4age turbo.

yea was gunna say ST205 all the way tho if you want a fun project kinda car go find a st165. light as hell and good power. sergei has built on up ask him about it.

EDIT:
just seems for the kind of money your wanting to spend. a bigger engine will weild the same result with more reliablity. hell why not just bolt a 3sgte into the rolla. :)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm 3SGTE powered Corolla.

A few years back, I remember an AE92 FXGT with a 3SGTE was for sale. Went for a VERY reasonable price too.

It had all the 4WD driveline too 8)
I think Glen (EZY10s) had something to do with that car too.
