NASCAR, V8, Formula 1...
It is pity to see something at beginning as competitive sport which promotes development, become something stale, old and rotten.
Like those archaic rules in V8 supercars and NASCAR, which basically bans everything hightech. Why not have flintstones racers instead? Who needs engine?

I glad to see that Toyota, being an outsider won something that is considered american only sport :D.

Bah only the 162 dominated.
the 185 had all sorts of problems
The 205 they had to resort to cheating to win (hence why you see very little about them from toyota - all about saving face)
By the time the Corolla came out the rallies had started turning from hard core endurance rallies (NZ=4 days & 5 1/2 hrs worth of stages in 2005) where tough was good was to soft rally sprints like today (NZ=3 days 3 1/2hrs worth of stages) where you can get away with super light parts.
The over engineered Toyota's had no chance against the ponsy French cars.

1993 WRC title (Toyota's first) not what I would call a problem.

in 1993 they were up against the lancia from the 80's a brand new impreza and new escort & those were the years when you could enter many cars for points.
Last championship win was 1994 and was much closer.

They hardly 'dominated'.

Still an awesome car driven by awesome drivers. Bring back those years when a 30 sec lead was hardly comfortable, no drivers aids, long hard days, regular breakages had to drive to finish pusing yourself to the limit as much as the car.

Watch footage from incar these days and the cars turn wherever the driver points them and barely slide around, back then Juha was sideways 100m before the corners and that was the fast way round.
Drivers were there because that was what they loved doing, not like today where some ballet dancer who's mechanical knowledge and skills go as far as using a ratchet as a hammer drops out of rallies because he had no chance of scoring big pints for himself.

Cool!

A NASCAR race is on my list of things to see, I reckon it'd be an awesome spectacle.
