Well ban the show off attitude. Ban lowring your car, ban sports exhaust, ban aftermarket wheels. Thats what its coming to.

Ditto....

Also - isn't there a limit - you cant put wheels bigger than 2" from factory, i.e. if they came out with 15" max - you cant go to 18" or more? Sorry getting off topic :P

You just put a tyre with a lower profile on or get your speedo calibrated.

And solitaire i disagree, i've never been let off a speeding fine and im always very polite to police. I dont come across as a munter and dont drive stereotypical boy racer cars, neither of my cars are loud or low at all. Apart from at full noise.

Twice it was for driving 61 in a 50kph zone. I did admit my speed, just being honest. Told him i was driving 58.
Another time for doing 121 near matamata on the long straits. Again i was very polite. Officer said he is "sorry" he has to give me a ticket but they have a zero tolerance approach to speeders.

CAT007: Sorry i appear to of mis quoted you... not sure how that happened as the quote i have there for you was in fact written by me... must be copy and paste madness!!! i can edit it out or leave it so people can see what you are referring to - let me know what you would prefer :D

Re the other stuff, i better clarify What i am trying to say: all the burnouts and loud vehicles are causing the authorities to clamp down hard... its just the way it is. Personally i think the big fix to all of this is to bring in compulsory 3rd party insurance... but then the insurance companies will require big time regulation to make sure they are not taking the piss.

With compulsory insurance people will have to take a bit of responsibility, there will of course be people who dont fall in line, but tough penalties and sentences should help there...

It should not affect the car modifying culture too badly... i am covered quite cheaply for 3rd party on two modified cars... and everyone should have 3rd party anyway so they can afford to pay when they hit someone elses mercedes.

Hmm :? Duno its been a while since my last ticket. I got caught a couple of times off the clock on the western in my levin... got off a couple of times... warned to slow down. I didnt take the hint and then i got a couple of major speeding tickets and racked up 95 demerits. Had a south african motorcycle cop who pulled me over last year because "i was trying to attract his attention" (changing lanes too much aparently, even though i indicated for a full 5 seconds before each lane change) - this cop gave me attitude big time, i didnt bite and remained polite, my license was a bit dodge because it said i needed lenses (have had lazer eye surgery) - but he let me off...

Maybe i have just had a good run of them, the attitude could of change significantly since then

But also, re the whole revenue harvesting comment... its not revenue harvesting, they are enforcing the law... you only get a ticket if you go over the speed limit, or if your car is illegal or whatever... very interested to hear any cases of revenue harvesting where the law was not being broken.

If you don't want to spend the $100 on making it legal then you probably shouldn't of done the mod in the 1st place!

Would you hop on an airliner that didn't meet the required standards?
Would you be happy being treated by a doctor who had almost passed medical school, but kept forgetting to get his scalpel cleaned?

Its only a hundy bucks, not much in the scheme of things, and if you want to be part of the car scene, then pay for the right.
If you and others don't abide by the rules, then the govt will make more rules against us all, and then we won't be able to do anything to our cars.

Do you and the others who can't be assed following the rules want to be responsible for that?

HAHA - that's not my intention (it'd be nice tho). Ever heard a murcielago at full noise? I will put $100 on it that it's louder than my "screamer" - yet that's road legal - and in no way frowned upon.... :?

OK here's one relating directly to me. Many many years ago, - well only about 4-5 - I was at the illegal drags (yes i've moved on since then haha) not racing (was in my partner's (at the time) 1.6 mazda familia, auto, courier car) - just watching - police came along - ticket the races (fair enough) then ticketed me for "watching" - $500. That's revenue collecting right there.

How about "excessive acceleration"? That's a whole bunch of crap if you ask me. My dad's excuse is "I'm sorry officer, it might've been excessive for your Holden but I was just cruising" haha

Please tell me you dont seriously believe over half of the traffic cops go out, every day, with the intention of collecting revenue.

But thats straight out dangerous and burnouts are direct damage to council property. Fair enough.

Well my turbo has no internal wastegate, i would much rather that it did then i wouldnt have had to $&#$% around plumbing a port into my manifold and wasting money buying one.

Well pay for me to have it plumbed in and ill plum it in. I dont care if its out or in, it doesnt make a difference to me either way. It still works. I have other things to spend my very limited money on.

You are comparing two totally unrelated things, what does a gate venting to atmos have to do with a surgeon who forgets to clean his equipment. One is very bad practice and the other is illegal. It is also illegal to cross at pedestrian crossings when the little red sign is up. I see people doing it all the time. So what?

Planes often dont meet the required standards. The left fuel drain on the piper warrior i took out the other day didnt work. It just ment i had to use the right fuel tank for take offs and landings and do a extra fuel drain on the forwards fuel drain.

Aggreed... they should have the same restrictions as us but this should not be used as an excuse for us to be loud too.

Yep but you were there and as such were supporting the event... its would not be the illegal drags without spectators... it would jsut be a couple of idiots at the lights. This is what i am trying to get at, we dont realise how we are contributing to the problem... we might "only be watching the drags" but we are still a part of it... if it got ticketed for that i would not complain... same if you rock up to watch someone break into a bank

Now this i aggree with... the excessive acceleration rule as i saw it was to give the cops a legal way to stop this dragging at the lights phenomenon... but it gets used everywhere. I am pretty sure if you dont loose traction and dont exceed the speed limit they cant do you though... think there is a post on here about that? have a look on the transit website and print it out for the next time you get done

Righto I would like to add my 2c to it:
My mate had normal plumb back in his car, when he sold it the new owner requested for screamer pipe to be fitted.
When I was in the car, I felt really sick, like I was in a gas chamber, I though "it can't be very good in the long run", VERY STUPID unless you are suicidal.

OK - maybe you're "mate" was on full boost all the time or maybe the screamer pipe really was pointing INTO the cabin.... - or maybe there's something wrong with you.....

I blew 2 of 3 exhaust gaskets between head and manifold while I was on the dyno - MASSIVE exhaust leak - a serious amount of exhaust gases were venting into the engine bay. It took an hour of driving home for me to say to my partner "can you smell exhaust gases?" who replied "yes - only just now I've noticed it" - and that was after an HOUR of constant exposure.

I think if you've got an external - you should have to have a gas analyzer in the car and you should have to drive around for an hour. If it's over a certain amount - then sure - its dangerous. But I doubt it will be............

Carbon-monoxide is the killer. It's also odorless.
A well tuned car shouldn't be giving off much at all..

assuming everyone has free flowing aftermarket exhausts... what the actual benefit of venting to atmos?

Not having to plumb it back in. Spend the $100 or thereabouts on something useful. Like a race helmet which i still need to buy or some redline gearbox oil.

Gate still works the same, thats all that matters in my books.

The $150 i get per week doesnt buy me much, especially seeing as i need to drive to the city from the end of the north western motorway every day. $100 is a lot for me

Is there any benefit not venting it to atmos?

If you had an exhaust that a so free flowing that there is no interference or back pressure in the wastegate dump pipe - then the actual exhaust would be too loud.....
