custom manifold & dump pipes etc, yours?

Postby Paulio » Mon Mar 10, 2008 5:09 pm

hey,

recently bought a b16a turbo manifold and modified for 4age turbo till i decide upon a new turbo (stage 2, t3 is ok for now). worked well and made the dump pipe with a good mate, took 2 afternoons but came out nice.

problem now is things could be better, cyl 1 pipe is too close to cas, turbo could be further away from the engine, dump pipe could align up nicer etc. dont get me wrong, it would flow quite nicely as is because thats been the main concern but maybe that has brought the focus too far off practicality.

so now ive realised that it needs a proper custom manifold and dump pipe but those things arent common to little gissy. so my question is, who do most go to for the turbo manifold and whos best to make a dump pipe from turbo through to the first joiner? really, no one in gissy has enough experience to make a turbo manifold or dumpy, and exhaust shops are limited to pitstop or a funny lookn exhaust shop down the road.

i'm guessing an evil_si manifold is the sex to go for but i dont want to be stuck at the dump pipe part again with no real trustworty solution.., would be interesting (for me anyway) to see the way other people have gone for their bits.

didnt realise how much of a cnut these bits were. have learnt a lot after rebuilding almost the entire turbo application.

also interested in the dump pipe part of this question.

how much does your average dump pipe cost? - with or without wastegate joiner/flexi etc

Hey paul, how easy was it to modify that honda manifold? were the ports the same length apart etc?

im not 100% on the distance between the pipes because the start of the piping on the honda manifold was "squashed" more of an (horizontally) oval shape than round so was a bit more forgiving if you can imagine it. the honda plate was cut straight off and the 4age plate was welded straight on. it was recommended by a mate because the spacing between ports between a b16 and a 4age were apparently close enough.

my guess is if you were to do it properly all port matched you would need to gas torch probably 2 of pipes and move then maybe 10mm.. just an idea of how close it is.

but my problem is in the collector end, the way the flange is angled for a honda is so the turbo is nicely tucked up against the engine, but the way i need it for a 4age is so it is quite a way away from the engine.

i probably wouldnt recommend it though, as why i am now going for a custom made one.
