I love how people love to lift the chassis so far off the ground, but the diffs and axles are still the same height of the ground unless you get stupid big unroadworthy balloon tyres....

Wouldn't you be better raising the chassis, prehaps going to independant sus front and back and getting longer suspention arms and axles to reach the diffs?

you would be better doing that, but anyone with half a brain and knows 4wds, height isnt always a good thing, best thing is to get diffs off the ground, not the body lol

curious to know whether they "are" the plates for it.
the guy is a clown and drove around with dealer plates for many. many months as it couldn't be complied.

depends how the driveshaft is setup and what angle, probably has double cardons through it lol

plus the heaight and width makes the tyres look really small lol

Saw a fantastic black Hilux on the Wellington motorway last night that was done very nicely, and all the diff and chassis was well off the ground. Not sure who owns it though.

Anyone with half a brain knows that bodies fill with water, so lifting chassis and body is a fantastic idea. Sure, body height is an issue for sidling a hill etc, but thats the wrong place to be driving anyway.

Getting diffs off the ground has and always will be a major issue, but more so is body clearance when it comes to sills and dropping in and out of rivers, holes and over rocks etc.

As for going to IFS, what? Are you stupid? Do you know ANYTHING about 4x4's? Independant suspension is NOT the way to go, it bites the big fat hairy kumera.

^^^ I was gonna say that about the IFS thing... all the serious 4WDers seem to rock live axles in the front!

Decent IFS ie: custom made, no where near factory. is actually better than beam axle but you need to spend HUGE $$$ making it and getting it set up right. the problem with beam axle is the grip & angle on one front wheel is determined by what the other one is doing. Good IFS is totally independant hence the name

it'd mean you can get the diffs up and out of the way more too, would it not?

Im yet to see a serious 4x4 that has indipendant on it. Ive known MANY people who have converted there IFS trucks to solid axles for the simple fact of better reliability, and travel/articlulation

What do hummers have, not the sissy civilian ones but the army ones?
They seem to have heaps of clearance and are IFS and probably IRS from what i see and they can climb and do all sorts pretty well...

by serious 4x4 do u mean custom 1s that compete in events up north etc? cuz most of them run independent
