Yeah... i think its only really doable where excess speeds are involved... perhaps a compulsory charge of reckless endangerment is in order if you go 40k's over the speed limit?

I always thought that if you are caught doing more than 50kms over the speed limit that you do get charged with reckless/careless!?!?!?!
And with the new laws they are bringing in, that will change to 50% over the speed limit. (ie. 75 in a 50km zone, 120 in a 80km zone, 150 in a 100km zone etc etc)

unless of course they are the car enthusiasts as oppossed to the boy racer types.

I would like to see a 18 year old car enthusiast that isnt a "boy racer"... its all about revving your engine and attracting females that that age...

blatant stereotyping but unfortunately for the genuine crowd they have been let down by d1ckheads havent they.

perhaps we need to follow suit with australia and do something like p-plates and limit cc's and aspiration type.

It is stereotyping definitely. But stereo types are usually established because a large number of a particular type of person are observed doing the same thing - so all stereo types have an element of truth to them at the least.

I can say 100% honestly that I have never been in a street race or anything of the type. As for girls, they say my car is cute :?

On the other hand: My mate just bought a BZG (Auto  ) and asked instantly assumed that because he had a 'fast' car he should be street racing. I was like wtf :!: :?:

Ohh well i should'nt really chime in here but the quickest I've been locked on a police laser gun is 272 kph at the St.Francis line just outside of Carterton but in saying this it was a closed road speed event though.Oh well they give kids these days the cars to do these speeds so I guess the rest of us just have to live with it.

There's just been a 13yr old in Dunedin caught doing over 100 in a 50 zone in a stolen car. The area is quite popular with little kids playing on the side of the street etc. & all this kid gets is a referral to youth aid and a family group conference 8O

I think they're needs to be some sort of 3 strike law come into force. It can't be used for stupid things like 61 in a 50k zone, or failing to indicate. But for serious things like doing burnouts, street racing, 20k over the speed limit, drink driving etc. On the 3rd strike its automatic loss of licence for 5 years on top of any other loss of licence given for offences committed, forfeiture of vehicle you were caught in (unless stolen), and 18 months jail with no possibility of parole or community based sentences.
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

I just had my car broken into last night some dooshbag #$*@wit tried to steal it. I rung up the cop and all they had to say was "so it was only broken into...." yea but that wasn't the intent now was it! They wont do anything about it wont even come and try lift some prints off it … what the hell cops are more worried about getting their Quota they don’t care about real police work. This just brings up what you where talking about before ….. don’t give them more power it will just prevent them further from doing any real police work… maybe we should split the police up again…. Traffic cops and regular ones?? Anyway good news is the $%## @$#@$^! Didn’t get away with it….

As for the car enthusiasts or boy racer thing, im 19 i own 2 cars no one can tell me that im trying to pick up girls in my 1990 Fxgt although my beloved dayly driver sports a peppy little 20v and some 17's its 2 tone faded 50% removed clear cote paintjob is anything but attractive to the O-so sweet 14yr old car hoe ......well yea anyway my point is simple i didnt build the car to look good i built it because i love to drive and i love to work on cars... no on could convince me otherwise, im not a boy racer....

Dont really know if thats fair man, my mates little brother is a cop for mangere and he says they are horribly understaffed. They cant even send police to domestic violence cases cause they are to busy trying to follow up stabbings, and gang violence.

My car was stolen and recovered with all the windows smashed out and a bit ghetto'ed, and they couldnt really do anything about it. I was pissed at the time but hearing shit from the other side of the fence i can understand why they couldnt do it.

Most cases cops dont really give a rats how you drive so long as you dont drive like a tard, and your car doesnt look like you dragged it out of the bottom of the ocean. Case in point person doing 178kmh in a domestic area. Nothing wrong with blowing off a bit of steam, but theres a time, place and a limit to how much steam you do blow off.

I agree fully with the claim that anyone who dose this is a halfwit !@$# tard and that he should be delt to stongly. But the fact thati get pulled over by cops at 9pm cuz my car is a little load and i have "raceing wheels" and wastes 30mins of my time and 30mins of his time just for a "random" check. when this idiot could be doing something constuctive realy gets to me.
I have nothing against cops my mates mum is a cop and she's great, One of my friends is on the waiting list enrol as a cop. i just dont agree with how the system is working...

Raise the Age you can Drive to 18 and get a full license at 20 it will help.

Or at least kill the offenders because as Jeff the Maori says, "its proven that dead people don't reoffend" :P J/K well only 30% kidding

personally this is what i think.

While you have cars and allow kids to drive them, some will do stupid stuff, some will die, some will kill others, its just cause they are not mature enough, hell i think we all did stupid stuff yeah.

You can put in over a million laws, take cars, crush cars, some people will still drive stupid and die and kill others.

Really laws have only a short term effect, before people stop caring.

Look at all the Drink driving laws, people still are drinking and driving

Education is key but wont fix everything.

Until Robots drive for us, people will speed, drive wasted on booze or drugs, people will do stupid stuff, or just plain human error and some will die.

Hi,

I understand what you are saying but really. It's not our problem. The police are there to do a job. They don't have enough staff, so? Cummon 50, sort it out.

Until this country has a decent public transport system that's not the greatest idea.

At the moment, I would be out of 2 jobs if that happened, out of an income. This could lead to me starting to do 'other things' (stealing cars, theft, drugs etc etc) to get a good income.

And saying that these people should take racing off the street is a rather silly thing to say too.

eg:

Why the hell would I go and PAY someone to go racing which I may only get 4 or 5 races/laps in that day, whip-d-do  Its a hell of a lot easier to go on he street and go for a thrash, what does that cost?? $20 for fuel maybe, but thats about it. (thats a small example, not taking into account the danger factor etc etc)

Now dont get me wrong, I'm fully against speeders and reckless driving, but theres more behind it that just a bunch of fuktards street racing.

Give me a FREE 24h venue and I know where I'll be heading......
