NZV8 utes - bet on a holden

Postby matt dunn » Fri Apr 04, 2008 10:43 pm

The new class, NZ V8 utes are running at timaru this weekend,

but there is a few issues with the falcons from what I understand.

The oil pumps in them are prone to failure at high rpm similar to what the XR6 T engine are, but there are higher quality oil pumps available in aussie like what we put into the focus.

But it seems that they haven't been done on the NZ one's.

At least 2 out of the 7 today failed, and caused terminal engine failures,
and it seems like the rest of the falcons are not not going to run untill they get new oil pumps ex aussie.
Apparantly they are on a plane on the way here for the morning,
but I doubt it will be a 5 min job to swap one of them.

heard the same thing last night.

wouldn't you be stoked to be a part of it.
utes arrived 2 weeks late, delivered 4 days before first event testing, allowing jack all time to signwrite and get to track, only to have engine failure with 5kms on the odo.

great way to start a new race series of really slow vehicles. couple with the fact it's raining down here, the ones that do start the first race will probably fence it.

are the utes running not the ones they left here when they ran a year or too back?
or have they put different engines in them?

i believe they are new from Aussie, but they may have granted dispensation to allow the older model to run to boost the entry..

will be televised but not sue of the date. won't be tomorrow, but there will be highlights on the news due to it being the first round and the amount of celebrity drivers.

No sorry, get the facts straight, they had to pull the engine to fix the sump from where it hit the trees off the end of the back straight in qualifying, so that one get blamed on driver era rather than a holden failure.

Glad to see the fords all got new oil pumps flown out o/night from aussie and fitted them all this morning.

yeah but I bet you dont want to pay the freight bill,

Still probably cheaper than having to fork out for 7 new quad cam V8 mustang motors, or refund the 7 x 80K price tags for the utes.

And have them all switch to Holden & bitch to everyone how unreliable Ford utes are. They're basically stock aren't they?

Knid of.

The Holdens are 6.0L Gen 4 V8's,
The fords are 4.6 Quad Cam mustang motors.

The engine's are mainly stock, but not out of the body shell they are in I dont think?
