All I can see in my mind is huge amounts of cost to fix, which would piss me off as I probably can't afford it without dipping into my savings.
For the record, when I purchased the car I inspected this area and it was smooth as and did not look at all like there would be rust under there.

What would your suggestions be Toyspeed? To just bog it up? Or get it professionally fixed?
As an interim measure I have blasted it with heaps of fish oil to stem any further destruction.
Also, I discovered this about an hour ago and have been drinking beer ever since and whoring the internet - it has affected me greatly.

Edit: That other bit of flaking to the left of the main patch was where I picked away with a screwdriver to try and gauge the coverage of rust.
