Has anyone had any experience with the Exedy Racing clutches?
They are apparently the next one up from the Sports Tuff Heavy Duty unit with the difference being the Sports Tuff HD uses a standard cast steel pressure plate that is uprated in Australia then rebranded where as the Exedy Racing pressure plate is made in Japan and isn't cast steel. Also I've heard but can't confirm that the Exedy Racing pressure plate is a two piece unit...

I'm basically after the strongest clutch possible for a 212mm 20v 4age flywheel without going twin plate (which I can't afford).

Any info or experience would be great.

i have the exedy 3 puck clutch with 1900 pound fly wheel, its the best clutch ive ever had, 200kw at the wheels and not even a hint of slipping can dump it in 2nd and bake up even got it into 3rd with my old tyres on it!!

the good people at midus that changed my clutch said mine was a 'heavy duty racing clutch'. its a 3 puk exedy clutch and steel presure plate. had it for many a moon(bout 2 years) on my 4agze, and its still got quite a bit of meat on in. never slipes eaither

Can't advise on whether the racing clutch is made in japan...
But do not... I repeat DO NOT EVER buy something from Exedy Australia.

They are complete $&#$% tools.

I put a sports tuff kit into the soarer when I originally did the conversion... piece of shit couldn't hold two bits of paper together if they were glued! Absolute $&#$% useless.

It was just a stock clutch plate with the friction material removed and replaced with "pucks" with huge oversized rivets... and I doubt the pressure plate was even uprated. Absolute shit. A stock 236mm clutch worked better than that piece of crap.

So yeah... normally you can see from the box whether the item originates from Japan or Australia.

Best bet would be to go see Eugene at Trade Parts. While he may think he's right when he's wrong and argue with you until you bring the part in and prove it to him, he has the good gear

have u looked into RPM clutchs appco sell them, with my discount got 4puk semisolid center clutch plate and upgraded pressure plate cost 300 buks

they are pretty average.

Mine was 250 for a 4 puck and upgraded pressure plate and it will slip when trying 3rd gear skids :lol:

Good for normal driving and a little fun but if its a car you only use for "having fun in" get something better.

u reckon? my cars done a few 3rd gear skids easily and never slipped

which 1 do u have theres 4 to choose from

3 puk with 3000lb pressure plate

Heaviest one I could get without going twin plate. Cost about 600-700?

212mm flywheel (this was a 4age clutch but fits on my 4afe flywheel)

Cant remember where I got it, ring Partsmaster in Henderson as they recommended the place I ended up getting it from. Just tell them what sort of HP etc you want to be running.

If you are prepared to look at something different Stu, I recommend you contact Anton at Geartech down here.

I can give you the details if needed.

On the other hand if you need to stay with Exedy (the JDM version) then you could always buy a TRD unit. Exactly the same.

Depends on how much unfortunately - budget is pretty tight else I'd go to a twin plate. But send me the details and I'll see what they can do.

yea same here, I dont think you can ever get a 3000lbs in 212mm and also in the 4agze 225mm, the most I could ever get was around 2000lbs. Due to the design of the pressure plates.

and also note the design of that last pressure plate is alot different to the one you have shown that most of us run, hence the higher clamp pressure,

mmm I just going off what I asked for and what the guy told me he had in stock. Said on the box 1300kg = 2870lb roughly 3000lbs

Any place you can take them to get it tested?
