Wilson Bulk Transport Ashburton Street Sprints 2008

Postby Kahlua » Tue Apr 01, 2008 10:08 pm

After a delay in getting the information out - due to not having a major sponsor, Wilson Bulk Transport came to the party for the coolest Clubsport event in the South Island (IMHO anyway)

Entries open this Saturday 8)

Event is Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of May.

http://www.ashburtoncarclub.org.nz/forms.htm

Note this year - you can only enter on behalf of 4 people, I believe to stop people showing up with 16 or so entries at a time :)

I'll be there for my 3rd time :D

If I say I don't need anyone
I can say these things to you
'Cause I can turn on any one
Just like I turned on you
I've got a tongue like a razor
A sweet switchblade knife
And I can do you favors
But then you'll do whatever I like

Don't wait too long to enter, ask most and they'll tell you that entries aren't open for very long before they are full.. I'm talking hours, not weeks too

but they have finally made a decent rule with the amount of entries and a 10am opening time. up to vegas to enter and back to Levels for the first races after lunch.
Otago rally is also on, so won't be too dissapointed if i miss out. watching Lino's new toy would be worth missing the street sprint 8)

From what I hear, if you send an entry in now thay may still accept it as they have still not filled all the spots,
Would be the first time in ages that happened.

was told the same on saturday nite at the rally prizegiving. there is one on reserve list.
car not back together..........yet. very standard brakes are going on it for this sunday, and would rather freeze my tits off watching Otago Rally than standing around all weekend for a few runs in vegas. other driver was hoping to go and smoke 2drafty, but car is untested for seal so won't be this year

Strange this year that entries are low - last year you couldn't, well, buy one. Heard TV isn't filming it this year? But that hasn't stopped pre-07 Sprints being filled up quickly.

CCC members may be down this year (?) - some regulars aren't entering (Geoff Watson (selling car), Wayne Scott (overseas - but back this year on holiday to watch), John Cottier (overseas holiday) - Nate isn't doing it this year, and Allan lost his car at that event last year, but the Russell lads are entering & Malcolm, and myself, Logan (Corolla), Mark (MX5) and Nikki (Laurel) are entered from CCC.

The other regulars (Mike Skevington (Civic), Dave Wilson (Celica), Ross McKay (Evo), Tim Cook (Evo) etc were at the entry day, so there will still be plenty of competition at the top of the table.

And without knowing for certain but seeing Carl Vaughan's new car doing some laps at the last Speed event I can only imagine him entering - and I can't see Neville Stowell not doing it this year after last years amazing result...

Lets hope the weather is nice to us :)

Although I'm racing the Mainland Challenge that weekend (hopefully) I wouldnt mind seeing if we can get the offroader to one or two of these style events. The Ashburton Sprints are fantastic!

i think it's a sign of the times. entries at most events are way down (41 starters at out recent rally, down from 70 2 years ago), unsure what the REAL reason is, but i would hazard a guess that the slowing economy has a fair bit to do with it.
i don't think TV has a big part, but in saying that, a few guys threatened to withdraw from the rally if RallyXtreme wasn't filmed. this then begs the question, are guys entering events because thats what they do, or are they only entering to bask in glory??

isn't the entry cut-off lower this year?? i'm sure it used to be 64 starters and 4 reserves??

I think you'll find its sponsor dollars that's effected by no TV coverage.

Just came back today from the North Island Endurace series and it's the same up there,

Lst year you needed to enter all 3 rounds to have a chance of a grid position,
thuis time they only had 1/2 a field at the first round, down 15 cars or so.
