HELP! car jolts everytime i shift gear... Faulty TPS?

Postby kim0663 » Sun Jun 15, 2008 6:25 pm

Ive got a 91' Trueno, 20v silvertop. Done around 170xxxkms now,

When you press the gas, it hesitates at a certain point (its around like as soon as i start pressing the gas) and then goes okay after that. So everytime i change gear, the car sort of jolts and then goes.

Didn't mind too much about it b4 but im guessing this can't be good for fuel  .

Im thinking about cleaning the Throttle bodies to fix it? If anyone else knows the cause of this, please let me know so i don't waste my time on trying to clean 4x throttles

your rear engine mount could be stuffed , it would cause results similer to what you have . try moving the motor by hand at the top ,this should give you an idea of whether to investigate further

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Could it not be the same problem with most blacktops ....that little flatspot during acceleration.

My car did that. But its not a silver top. Just a 2E carb. I replaced the leads and went fine after that.

hmm leads eh...?

Well im gonna rip out the throttles tomorrow and give em a good clean first because cleaning them costs alot less than ht leads

Might even take out the fuel filter and give em a good blast with the air gun too.

will post how things go.

I got them really cheap  It was the last thing on my list to try and get it running properly.
But obviously mine isn't EFI so it might not be that.

lots of different ideas again fullas, its gonna be process of elimination,

my car once had a problem like this it was the factory intake pipe had a large split in it and needed replacing, we used duct tape and it was ok for a while. also can be any one of the other things mentioned here or even something else.

I realise you've got quads, but my 16V did that, almost as soon as your foot touched the gas pedal, it would give a little "kick", then drive as normal, turned out I'd pulled a vacuum line off the throttle body accidentally. I too thought it was a buggered engine mount, even rang around getting quotes in the hundreds of dollars for a new set! lol.
