i have just submitted an enquiery (england..) to ask if i can purchase a untranslated copy. does any one know someone that can translate (i guess) Japaneese?

do you know if they send electronic copies or hard copies?

If its a proper pdf doc you should be able to select the text and put that into a translator.

I can translate (from Russian obviously) some bits if you want for free, but not long paragraphs as it will consume a lot of time that I don't have....

Ummm, you might want to rethink that, the manual is 390 pages

However as it's for all 1997-2000 Caldinas it has a lot of stuff not relevant to the ST215.

Best idea would probably for me to make it into several PDF documents and see how easy it will be to translate a sample chapter.

I wonder how easy it would be to OCR and then try translating using something like Google translate, then go through and fix up the machine translation...

Ok, JPNZ have pissed me the hell off. I certainly wont be doing business with them.

After I put my name down for both the 96 and 97 Caldinas I received unsolicited commercial emails about other unrelated products from them. (I ranted in this thread at the time).

I reported them to the DIA who chatted with JPNZ, who've in turn promised to 'improve their systems'.

Today after receiving yet-another-request to click on a link to confirm my interest in buying the manual (deposit required, eh... was that made clear initially? I think not..?) I replied with a frustrated enquiry, as to why they hadn't figured I was no longer interested through my having ignored their first two emails...

I got a fairly prompt response from the Director of JPNZ basically accusing me of being a timewaster, and telling me to click on the link to decline.

What gets me about this:

- The link says 'click to confirm'. One assumes that if you dont click, you dont want to confirm? It's less than clear.

- Received a similar email 3 times. How many times before they give up?

- No fixed expiry period appears to have been indicated... how long will they wait?

- Entire attitude portrayed is piss-poor IMHO. When I worked in a customer-facing role I was always obliged to be well mannered and patient no matter how frustrated I was with the idiot customer I was dealing with at the time.

I won't be dealing with this outfit again given the choice - no point in rewarding poor service. The need for a follow-up confirmation and cash deposit could've been made much clearer from the get-go, which would've probably made me think twice about signing up. (its one thing to say 'yes, i think it should be translated and brought in' and yet another to say 'yes, i'll pay $100+ for the manual kthx').

To answer my own question... It's possible, but a PITA because the OCR program is in Russian. Translation through Microsoft word or Google translate isn't too bad but it takes about 1-2 hours per page to get it right because the layout keeps stuffing up due to the diagrams and columns

It's not something I'd want to do for the whole manual, but it's ok for the few pages that I need at a time.

I was all hopeful about this but doesn't look like its gunna happen.


Who is the russian manual produced by? Same controlling company as JPNZ?

Side note, kinda random that NZ and Russia would be the main countries to import Caldina's isn't it?

They're pretty rare due to Australia's prohibitive import regulations but there are a handful in the country.
