I agree that toyota did a lot of research.... to come up with something that's cost effective, and fits in a FWD engine bay.
If you retained the original tuned length of the runners, then I wouldnt be surprised to see that some nicely machined 'straight' runners would give an increase in flow, with no real downside. (apart from probably not fitting in a FWD engine bay anymore....)
IF you're going to a RWD engine setup, then yeah, I think there's possibly benefits to having some 'straight' trumpets, assuming they're of equivilent length to the standard ones. (or there abouts)
In this case, a FWD setup, pulling off tuned length standard ones for some short ones that fit... Probably not such a good idea IMO.
