Just had report that on the motorway it's taken 1 hour to get from Mt Wellington on ramp to the south easter on ramp (1km?). People who left pukekohe at 6.30 are still not even at ellerslie.

Lol I normally drive into town (wgtn) but caught the train today because I didn't want to get stuck in the traffic jam.

Funny thing is that the motorway was empty, if we'd driven in I would be super early lol.

The trucks were just in the slow lane so traffic flow was better than normal

Now that Im at work I can see them driving along the water front hooting etc but still not really causing any hold up. Not really the effect that I was expecting but the fact that they've practivally emptied the motorway and streets in the CBD in a feet in itself!

Man.. just went over the Motorway on the SE Motoway and there still ton's of trucks going to the city. Everything is at a stand still

And its totally awesome... I support anyone giving it to the government at the moment.

Heres a picture looking at the onramp at Church St/SE Motorway

Went for another 5-6km's to Onehunga mall road.. awesome.

saw someone hop out of their car and knife 3 tyres of a truck this morning... 8O
Certainly made the trucky stop, and the traffic flowed right passed...

just like the internet. if the highway is "damaged", route around it... nothing to see here, move along.

I support the truckers. I mean they deliver everything we use everyday. Food, car parts (2 staples of life lol), fuel loads for petrol stations tanks, milk deliveries etc etc.

In the end we'll be paying more for our food at the supermarket because it costs more for truckers to deliver it.

There has been a solid row of trucks going past me for over an hour now (Wellington waterfront by the big Shell Station on the quay).

Any idea if they are going to park up at Helens place afterwards?

Might go for a wander down to the Beehive at lunch time and see if anything is happening :P

No they shut the gates & won't let them in & put up posters berating truckies

Guess they wanted to claim there wasn't a protest cause they didn't see it

I say the govt should double the mileage tax just because of this. Trucks are the main cause of wear and tear on most NZ roads, truck freight costs kiwis more than they know. Now they've got the rails back trucks need to start disappearing, more mileage tax is a good way of doing it.

f**k the truckies.

This isn't about the increase, it's about the lack of warning which was promised. Many truckers contracts cannot be reviewed immediately by their employer, so the employer will have to wear this increase. They can't turn around and instantly put their costs up for their customers.

most places around the world with a decent rail system use rail to get it to the city, and smallish trucks to get it from "central ish" places to super markets... no need to be a prat about it.
