dont need that big of cams, the reason it makes power up that high is the good combo of the cams and turbo,

your cams are bigger 4agtepwr, and i see no reason why you couldn't rev it that high if you were making power. or for better gearing. as you have a fair bit of headwork done. some tuners just don't want to rev motors that hard.

talk to kent@speedsource as he built the car. motor and everything and tuned it.

Mine peaked at 8200rpm horsepower wise, so we didnt see any point in reving to much harder, would go to 10grand if we let it but there would be no gains, limits 8800 as it is. Maybe mines choking a little with the small ex housing, or maybe he is revving it that hard to try and get a usable powerband with the bigger turbo.

Not having a winge at all, just really keen to talk to other people that have built/tunned decent 4age turbos as it all helps us firgure out how to push harder each time :)

Definite difference there when compared to mine. Im running bluetop cams in standard Smallport head. T3/04E "450hp" and peaks at 7000rpm from memory. Still makes good power at 7800 but obvious drop off.

When does yours spool? Mine is around 3500rpm depending on gear and load. Which makes it very useable. 8)

Its makes full boost around 5500 somewhere around there, which does make it feel quite laggy, The e58 and tall finial really dosn't help matters but once we got flatshifting to work you dont really notice the lag. Think it will have to go back on the dyno at some stage and have a play with cam timing to see if we can get it to come on any eailer.
I reckon its still a pretty useable powerband, just have to rev it pretty hard. Its still really fun to drive and its really good off boost for around town :)

I bet it goes nuts but having it drop off boost between gear changes would drive me nuts. Mine is really good in that respect. Infact it only needs to be starting to spool in 1st then a quick change to 2nd and its still on boost 8)

But then again I built mine with the aim of having useable power for circuit racing instead of all out power. Otherwise I would have gone for something different.

Yeah, In hindsight I prob should have gone for a gt2876, but the topends pretty cool:) Will have to get out to a speed event at ruapuna to see what its like round a circut. Should be pretty good for drag racing which is pretty much what we built it for. Do plan do rebuild the e51 like bazz did and mix and match ratios which I think will help it a lot.

Ewwww GT2876R, the turbo you have is a much much better piece of kit - you probably lose virtually no spool to the GT2876R but as you say, have wicked top end.
