That's a little rude, ever considered that some of us or our families might be truckies? I've got three truckie uncles, and my old man is a truckie. Watch your mouth.

I'm all for it, not just because of the family connection, but because this seems to be the only way to get the message to parliment these days. How would you feel if you ran your own buisness and the costs were going up and up every week? Remember that "middle class" NZers (truckies, builders, labourers, retail workers.... all these sorts) are the backbone of the country, and without their support we all go under. And these people can't support us if they can't afford to live or go about their jobs.

Like how you used the word CITY in a international context. With Auckland's population it can barely be classed as a city at an international level. Pretty much all of the other "cities" cant either. And we have a big bit of water between the two islands. Damn...

Would be real cheap to do that here, no cities to run rail to :lol: :lol:

We have so many towns and small cities its not possible to run rail everywhere. Trucks will always be around and will always play a important part in transportation of goods around NZ..

Wellington probably has the best rail system in the country, not sure where your getting your info from?


I drove into work this morning at the usual time on the usual route and I couldnt believe that I got there about twice as fast :lol: I think everyone left early so it was me and about 10 other cars going down the Nauranga gorge

Good shit truckies! I had a wide smile all the way from the Shore to New Market.
They got balls. Good on em. We could learn a thing or two from them! We should organise something similar due to the fix fuel tax being a percentage and not a fixed price!!!

the last thing we need is somthing els to rase living costs!!
the trucks run the country.. we cant rely on rail any mr... all the railway towns have died, and most of the lines have been closed.. so give them a break and support them!!
hate to think what would happen to the contery if they went on strike..

Actually it's not as bad as you make out, while trucks do create a bit more wear and tear on the roads than cars, on properly designed roads it's not much more expensive to maintain. I know this because I used to work for a council in the Waikato that had the highest level of heavy vehicle usage in the country, mainly due to milk tankers. We did a study on the costs vs usage and there was little difference on properly designed and maintained roads.

Besides which Road user charges are set such that the higher the tonnage the more they contribute to the cost of maintaining the roads.

Now they've got the rails back trucks need to start disappearing, more mileage tax is a good way of doing it.

You can't have been around in the days when it was an offence to cart good more than 160km in opposition to the railways. What a rort that was. Pilferage was that bad you had a 50/50 chance of receiving your goods at all, and virtually no chance at all of receiving them on time.

Even with all the advantages of no competition and exhorbidant charges for sending anything by rail they still couldn't make a profit :roll:

There would be NO need for this if the bloody government monitored road repairs etc.

Each year, councils go an order HUGE repairs to roads that DON'T NEED IT just so they can use all the money in their budget so they get the same amount in the next year.

Just like a long road down from me. They tore the whole thing up and rebuilt it from scratch. There was no need. The road was fine.

If the government actually monitored this sort of bollocks, they could be more conservitive with their money and apply repairs to areas that actually need it!!

will this also apply to ruc's on personal diesel vans? used to be cheaper to drive a diesel van than a car, but the diesel price has only gone up with petrol, it hasn't come back down, then ruc's on top, petrol's more of a cheaper option, and if they raise the ruc's for these as well, then might as well give up on the diesel all together...

Totally agree with you there, within 10mins of my house (just north of chch) theres alot of pointless roadworks, they are spending millions redoing a massive section of Tram road, which I and my family and friends have driven for years without a single problem, and then put in what looks to be pointless barrier fences underneath the motorway overpass. They would be about 20m long and look to have no purpose whatsoever...

The money would be better spent on doing something about the roads that are causing traffic problems...

I think RUC's went up by $50 per 10k (or was it 1k) on vehicles under 3500kg.

I think those are to reduce the chance of an accident if you end up on the grass. A concrete pole certainly isn't forgiving :lol:

A couple years back someone drove into one to commit suicide, i'm sure thats not why they are going up now, but just saying.

i have read many of your posts on this forum......... and thought you were a level headed person with good information to share.

however, this would qualify as close to being THE most retarded statement EVER posted on Toyspeed. i take it as read, you spend all your day as a pen-pushing, keyboard-bashing white-collar fektard who has no need for anything that dosn't come via broadband.

that Annette King slapper, has just plunged a decent sized knife into the backbone of NZ, screwed it around a few turns, then snapped the blade off.

RUC is paid in proportion to the maximum weight allowed to be carried, not necessarily the current wieght on board. a truck that can carry 44tonne loaded, pays the same amount empty, so your damage arguement of seriously flawed.

further to that, the value of our stocklist of diesil utes and 4wds has just plummetted after the increases in diesil fuel, the extra rego fees, and now the extra RUC...... as if things wern't queit enough before???

That would have to be the only case yeah? Its as straight and wide as a straight and wide piece of road gets...
Only good thing I see coming from it is the cops cant hide between the concrete poles with their radars now :lol:
